Noticed that comment in this article about GSU's S&C.

Yikes...at least it's good stuff for the bulletin board in the locker room.

Interesting. The quote makes it seem like would have to be a guy who has been around a long time. Ayers or Jerry?

It's true though. Both front lines were swiss cheese and the players had mentally accepted mediocrity.

I can't envision either Coach Moore or Coach Ayers saying something like that......

Really though... the SoCon as a whole has become fairly soft... especially defensively. Chattanooga and Samford were the only SoCon defenses last year that weren't (at least from the games I saw).

Could have been anyone since it was off the record.
I could see either one (Moore or Ayers) of them saying in private.
I could see Lamb saying it. Of course then the come back would be what's been FU's excuse

Seems like the previous S&C coach was really slacking off

I am betting it was fElon's coach. He is really outspoken, and cock sure of himself. Built a good team fast after coming to the SoCon. Can't keep his mouth shut. Has not run into many problems.

I don't think it was Lembo, sure he's outspoken at times, but I don't think that he thinks that he has earned a right to talk about another team like that. We've only really had 5 winning seasons since moving up to D-I in 1999. We can't talk smack about a team that has won 6 NCs.

The SoCon used to be a great conference. I mean it REALLY was with FU, ASU, and GSU... now without Armanti, and the guy from Elon...the SoCon is boring and stinks. NO MORE top flight, triple option, dominating offense. NO MORE exciting, edge of your seat, explosive Offense ft. ARMANTI EDWARDS. Its gone! Its history, in the books! The SloCon is in a reconstruction phase.

I hope this isn't the case, because if Wofford wins it this year (I don't know who will win this year) it will be under the "weak conference" excuse which was the excuse used by the rest of the conference when the 2003 team won it

Don't sweat it. They don't add the words "weak conference" to the trophy. Besides, if the conference were that weak then why didn't anyone else win it?

YT, Time to get over it. It isn't 2003 anymore. Wofford has respect.

I think the Socon despite the poor play of GSU the past couple of years is still fairly strong. Samford always seem to be a good team, App State had done amazing things coming from that conference with or without Armanti. Not denying he was good but there are 10 other guys on the field that helped make it happen

. Wofford is usually pretty good as well (i was very surprised they did so poorly last season) and Furman also seems to be decent. Georgia Southern should have never moved away from the triple option and i think now with Monken at the helm we will see the Georgia Southern teams of old that will come out, smack you in the mouth and run you over

this sure looks like a hometown bush league writer trying to generate bulletin board material and getting others into a phlaming frenzie as it may be... yea blame the Elon coach!!!!
all Elon has done is beat GSU 3 straight years. GSU has gone through 4 coaches since Elon joined the SoCon so where are they going to look? GSU is an awesome institution w/ a glorious history and is highly respected by our fellow SoCon brethern....

FWIW:
It could well have been OUR Coach who said that... I have read where Coach Monken has described our team as "slow and weak" because the players he inherited were, in comparison to the GSU teams of old, precisely that.
I believe Coach Monken and his coaching staff ARE addressing both issues now, and hopefully "slow and weak", will soon become "not so slow, and not so weak", and eventually he will honestly be able to say the players are no longer "slow and weak" at all.
But transitioning to "fast and strong" will not be an overnight process and I think we need all the Savannah States we can find early in the upcoming season to give our former "BVG/Coach Hatcher Non-Attack" recruited players time to hone their skills in what will be an entirely new offense for most of them.
The GSU of old was never described as "slow and weak", and even tho it will take time to get our players back into GSU triple option shape, I think the results will be worth waiting for. (Well, at least for the GSU fans) Coach Monken knows what he's doing, and once he gets HIS type players recruited and on the field I think the GSU football program will be respected again by all teams who play us and their fans.
But, hey, I'm a dedicated GSU "homer" and I know the only thing that will change the perception of GSU as being a "weak and slow" team with little respect is results on the field of play, and while it won't be overnight, as Lewis Grizzard would have said, "it's coming folks"..
No offense intended to GSU haters, just an old fart spouting off his personal opinion.
I'm ready for football season already..
Thanks,
Jesse
