How is a guy straight out of college restricted?

BTW, congrats, Stony Brook. It's been a long time coming. I'm sure there will be many more in the future.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

I wouldn't say "pathetic" but suprising for sure.

SBU really hasn't had anyone in the NFL before this?

Forgot to add 2 former SBU players signed with CFL teams this week.
Dwayne Ely '09 WR signed with the Saskatchawan Rough Riders
Lawrence Lovell '09 OL signed with the Hamilton Tiger Cats
Both are two year contracts. Progess to this level shows our program is headed in the right direction. I expect more to come in future seasons.

ummm...U Albany and SBU have both been in FCS about the same length. Until last season U Albany has always been the stronger program. Despite this, you guys have 2 in total....I'd say we're doin alrite. It looks like we have about 4-6 in the pipeline over the next couple years, and we've only been full scholly for a season. I expect that you'll see the total rise fast.

Wrong. We've had 2 draft picks.

Kurt Campbell - 2004 7th Rd
Rashad Barksdale - 2006 - 6th Rd.

We've other free agent signings.

Andre Coleman - Chargers 2007
Jacob Hobbs - Eagles 2007
Geir Gudmenson - Bills 2005
Matt Callandro - Pantehrs 1998
Dan Gmelln - Chargers 1997
Seth Thomas - Panthers 1997

That's why I'm surprised that SBU has never had a free agent signee. I know I played against guys that I thought were good enough to at least get a shot at free agency. Aden Smith is one that comes to my mind.

My apologies, I just used what wikipedia had about Albany football. That was a lack of research error on my part.

That being said, I don't have a good answer about why SBU has taken this long. Could be that we have indeed had RFA signings. It could also be that until recently Albany far and away took athletics more seriously than SBU.

I guess I'll leave that to the philosophers and celebrate that we've finally taken the right steps in the right direction

I don't mean to belittle this kid's accomplishment at all. Congrats to him. And SBU is definitely going in the right direction (even though its the wrong direction from my eyes - moving away from UA).

I definitely understand. You're a genuine guy, it's clear that wasn't your intent.

As for Albany and SBU, didn't Coach Ford make it clear he wouldn't play us until Albany was full scholly? I'd love to see something of a rivalry develop like in lacrosse, but that makes things very difficult.

Yes, Coach Ford has said that he will not schedule SBU again until UA got all its scholarships. Smart move on his part. Its a lose-lose for Albany.

But next year I have a feeling we'll be playing in November and neither Coach will have a say in it. (NEC champ vs. Big South champ in the opening round). :thumb:

Seattle also recently signed former CWU QB Mike Reilly, who played at Kamiakin HS, where I graduated from. Very cool. :thumb:
