The WAC is keeping its options open, too, scouring for schools. Benson said there are five or six candidates from the Football Championship Series the conference is keeping an eye on.

Yea, it's been busy at work, took a little trip to Spain, yadayadayada. But I saw the article on ESPN and thought I would post it here. It absolutely pains me that my first post back is about West Coast football (which I deny exists).

Do we know what the new requirements (if there are any) will be to move up? What kind of time frame? I would think the lead time to move up to FBS would make some of these conferences think twice about inviting FCS to replace a school leaving in 2011 or 2012.

The vast majority of SacBuzzers have seized on the WAC Commish's idea of granting Sac full membership (we are already associate members of the WAC). I seem to be the lone pro-FCS holdout.
It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Based on the desperation of keeping conferences afloat... I'm going to guess: a pulse.

As a real note too this: Pat Hill DID say he sees UC Davis, Sac St., and Cal Poly as future WAC members. I believe he was hoping to god that Fresno was in the MWC by then
If the WAC is smart they'll take at least 2 if not 4 to get to 12. If there are 4 willing west of the Miss.

Would it be smart of the WAC to have 33% of its members as FCS move-ups? I understand they might have no choice, but that seems like a lot of transferring schools to take on.

Call me crazy, but it doesn't really make sense that a school that has never been a serious competitor in the Big Sky would be so eager to move up to the WAC. It's like getting your ass handed to you on the Rookie difficulty in Madden and deciding to play on Veteran instead.

If the WAC was any good that would make some sense, but now with Boise gone the WAC has joined the basement with the Sunbelt and the MAC. Moving up to the WAC is debatable if it's even up, and even more so considering the gap now between the superconferences and everyone else. Moving into the WAC now would be like going to one of those deserted areas in Detroit where for 20 square blocks no one lives, and picking out the best house there and deciding that's where you want to live.

You make a good point about the WAC and that's exactly why I'm not on the move up bandwagon that some Griz fans are riding. Why move up to a bottom of the barrel conference? So we can play in the Humanitarian Bowl or maybe, just maybe, the Las Vegas Bowl

? Who cares? I for one hope that the WAC does snatch up Sac St. and leaves the Griz be.

How do you figure? They have 8 members and unless the Big 12(5) can convince 4 or so MWC schools to join them. Then the MWC would raid the WAC, its not happening. If Big 5 wanted the MWC members, not sure they'd leave the MWC now since they've locked up a BCS AQ with Boise.
