For the UD posters here:

Check out http://www.bluehens.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, they're having a contest currently to nominate players to hang their banners up on the facade of the West Stands like they did with 6 former greats last year. Personally I voted for George Schmitt, Darrell Booker & Omar Cuff.

I don't understand the Lazarski inclusion in that group - maybe Schoenhoft would've been a better selection?? :ohno:

Nice friend. Maybe you should've emphasized 'was' after that post. Jim was a very good RB, so was his 'old man'. :?

It is difficult to choose among that stellar group. I went with Brunner, Cuff, and Johnson, but could have easily gone with three others as well.

Speaking of, how did that Monnndooooeee chant get started? That was pretty great. All 3 are great selections!

I personally tried to add a

"John."

cheer whenever Mulhern made a tackle - it didn't exactly catch fire...

I believe the "Monnnnndoooooe" cheer was born out of A) reverence for the guy being a tough player and B) poking fun at our kiddie camp PA announcer, who used to say "Tackle by No 58, MONNN-DOE Davis." Sections J and K picked up on it and started it.

"Fuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrst and Ten...BLUE HENS" God, is that guy an embarrassment...

Elbert was a class act: just the facts, no histrionics. Comparable to Harvard's Charlie Dale, who did Harvard's PA work for over half a century. To Dale, a pass was never "incomplete": it just "failed"!

Only thing I didn't like about Elbert was his stance on not wanting to announce scores of other games. I have a pretty good source on that one as the girl that used to sit next to him in the press box is the girl I married.

Was there a rationale for that>?

Getting married or not giving the scores?

He didn't like to give out scores of other games, wasn't a big fan of doing anything that was "on the script". Just liked announcing the games.

Probably why you got league scores & then obscure teams games announced.
