2010-2011 CS Weekly Pick 'Em game

This game was a ton of fun last year, and we didn't have many people playing. This year I'm hoping to get two or three times as many players. Get your picks in, and get your post count to 100 to play!

Screaming_Eagle174 and myself are in charge of the game. Last year this was my child in terms of the game, but SE174 became a valuable asset to have working with me, so this year he is co-host if you will.

The rules are as follows.

1. Game will consist of picking the winner of each top 25 game. Each correct pick will be worth 1 point.

2. Picks are due by 9AM Central on Saturday. Weeks that have Thursday/Friday games will have a deadline of 4PM Central Thursday/Friday if you wish to have that game count towards your picks. If you get it in late that game will not count towards your total.

3. The game will use CS.com's top 25. When not available Phil Steele's top 25 will be used.

4. Schedule of games to pick will be posted by 8PM Central Tuesday evening, possibly sooner depending clenz's schedule.

5. Pick's will run from preseason AQ and at-large bids, all the way through the title game.

6. Conference AQ and at-large bid picks will be due at the same time as the cut off for the week 1 picks. You may edit your picks for the AQ and AL picks until 9AM Central the Saturday of the first game. NO OTHER EDITED OF PICKS IS ALLOWED DURING THE SEASON. ONCE A PICK IS MADE IT CAN NOT BE CHANGED. Missing a week does NOT disqualify you from playing the rest of the season, neither does missing the first week.
6A. Each correct post season pick is worth one point. If you correctly pick the team as winning the AQ or at-large bid you will receive 2 extra points. I.E. you pick School A to win the AQ and school B to get an at-large. School A doesn't win the AQ but gets an at large, and School B get's an at-large. You would get 1 point for correctly having School A in the playoffs, and you would get 3 points for correctly prediction School B would be an at large.

7. Post season picks will have a weighted scoring system due to fewer games being played. Each round will have a different weight.

8. The playoff point system will be updated here, and posted once the format is completely understood and the weighting system is worked out for it.

9. Each player must have a minimum post count of 100 by the pick cut off line of the first week. There is plenty of time to get involved all across the board and get to 100 posts. I will take screen shots to freeze everyone's posts counts at the time of the cut off to see if they meet the required post count. The CS Poll has a post count as well. This is to avoid people joining to only play the game. If you want to join to play the game, great, just contribute elsewhere. As of the time of this being posted on the board there is something like 45 days to get to 100. For a brand new member who hasn't posted yet that is about 2.2 posts per day.

10. There will be prizes for the top three. Last season I sent out a bunch of UNI gear to the top three. This year's prizes have yet to be determined, but once they are they will be updates here and will be posted on the board.
11. A tie break system will be worked on during the season in the event of a tie.

Also please make sure to denote your "home team" with your AQ/AL pick. This won't affect anything other than the look for my points sheet.

Clarification for wording of rules 6 and 7 if needed found in spoiler. Taken straight from SE174's post
Spoiler: show
Just to clarify between rules 6 and 7 if the wording was a little confusing (post-season picks).

Rules 6 and 6a refer to picking the 20 teams you think will make the playoffs, which must be chosen before the season begins.

Rule 7 refers to picking the match-ups in the playoffs. Each round of the playoffs will be worth 16 base points, divided by the number of games played per round. If 4 games are played first round, then each [correct] pick will be worth 4 points. Like last year, there will be bonus points for picking closest to the actual point spread for each game, which will be explained in more detail when we get close to the playoffs.
The game starts now!

As the winner of this shindig last year, I suggest you all copy and paste my picks. Follow me if you want to live.

+1. I think I'll do this instead of my poll this year. Much less work.

Also, if anyone has any appropriate FCS gear they'd be willing to donate for the prizes, it would be greatly appreciated.

Why wouldn't you still contribute to the CS Poll? We need as many people voting on that as possible.

Speaking of the poll, when are we going to get it started? I think we agreed that we're not doing a preseason poll, but are we going to do one starting the Sunday after the first week of games? Also, Phil Steele posts a weekly FCS ranking throughout the season, not just a preseason ranking right?

I'm in for this game, also I can probably get my hands on an Elon T-Shirt or something, I don't know if this is a hot ticket item, but I could add it to the prize.

perhaps a password or two to Cap'n Cat's favorite websites should be added to the prize pool?

If you feel confident enough to start making your picks you can do so now. Remember you CAN edit these up until the first cut off. Once that first week cut hits I will have screen shots of every player's picks.

Please submit them in a form that looks something like the following, to make it easy to tabulate from later.

Big Sky AQ -
Big South AQ -
CAA AQ -
and so on.

At Large Births
Team A
Team B
and so on.

OR list the teams and put AQ or AL behind them

IE

Montana - AQ
EWU - AL
UNI - AL
SIU - AQ
UD - AL
ASU - AQ
UNH - AL
W&M - AQ
and so on.

Thanks

Not sure what that's supposed to mean. I said "haha" in response to my previous post. It looks like it should be fun and perhaps I'll play this as opposed to voting in the "other site's" poll

Just saying, if you want to play, then play. If you don't, then don't.

For the AQ/AL pick I made a a post earlier about how I would like that done. You don't need too, and I'd prefer you didn't put it in a spread sheet. Just list the picks in your post.

Here is a link to the second half of last years game. You can look around that thread and look at the format's that various posters used.

posting.php?mode=quote&f=4&p=169138" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I, for ease when it comes to counting totals would prefer if you used something like D1B did on that first page with making your picks for the winner red
D1B wrote:#1 Richmond Spiders (5-0) @ Maine (3-3)
#2 Northern Iowa Panthers (5-1) vs #5 Southern Illinois (4-1)
#3 New Hampshire Wildcats (5-0) @ #20 UMASS (3-2)
#4 Montana Grizzlies (5-0) vs. #21 Eastern Washington (4-2)
#6 Villanova Wildcats (5-1) @ #19 James Madison (2-3)
#9 Central Arkansas Bears (4-1) @ #16 Stephen F. Austin (4-1)
#10 Appalachian State Mountaineers (3-2) @ Wofford (1-4)
#11 South Dakota State Jackrabbits (4-1) vs. North Dakota State (1-5)
#13 South Carolina State Bulldogs vs. #22 Florida A&M Rattlers
#14 Weber State Wildcats (3-3) @ Sacramento State (2-3)
#15 McNeese State Cowboys (3-2) vs. Northwestern State (0-5)
#17 Cal Poly Mustangs (3-3) vs. Southern Utah (2-3)
#18 Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens (4-2) @ Towson (2-3)
#23 Colgate Raiders @ Georgetown (0-6)
#24 Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (3-2) @ Portland State (2-4)
#25 Furman Paladins (3-2) vs. Samford (3-3)

OR do what most of the posterd started to do by the end of the season and just list your winners. Example from AZGrizFan last season

AZGrizFan wrote:Massachusetts

Lots of what could be called "upsets in my picks this week.

I would post what my scoreboard looked like but it was always screen shotted and saved to my photo bucket, if we get enough players this year that may not work so I'd have to find something else, but I deleted all of the photos on my photobucket so the links are all now dead in that thread.
