ASU #7
James Hill
WR
6-0 170
Sr.
Atlanta, Ga.
(Mays)
With the departure of speedsters Dexter Jackson and Jerome Touchstone, Hill takes over as perhaps the fastest player on the squad ... is expected to be a regular part of ASU’s wide receiver rotation .... comes into fall camp listed as the top reserve at the Y receiver position .... is especially dangerous carrying the ball on reverses ... could be in the mix on kick and punt returns.
2007: Saw action in 12 games ... carried the ball on reverses nine times for 44 yards ... also caught a pair of passes for eight yards ... carried twice for 24 yards in home opener versus Lenoir-Rhyne, including a season-long 21 yard run ... caught passes at The Citadel and Western Carolina ... ran a season-high three times for 11 yards in first-round playoff victory over James Madison.
2006: Racked up 476 all-purpose yards on 30 touches in first season after transferring from Rhode Island ... coaches tried a variety of ways to get the ball in the speedster’s hands ... two-thirds of his 30 touches came on kick returns (20-401 yds., good for seventh in the SoCon) ... rushed six times, primarily on reverses, for 52 yards, good for an impressive 8.7 ypr average ... also caught four passes for 23 yards ... made four starts at wide receiver.
2005: Did not see game action due to NCAA transfer rules.
Previous College: Led Rhode Island with 16 receptions for 287 yards and a touchdown as a true freshman in 2004.
High School: An all-state selection as a kick returner and all-metro honoree at wide receiver at Mays H.S. in Atlanta ... recorded 56 receptions for 563 yards and five touchdowns and returned two kicks for touchdowns as a senior ... coached by Darrell Caldwell ... was teammates at Mays with current Mountaineer Anthony Cruver.
Personal: Full name is James Jarvis Hill III ... born Dec. 28, 1986 (21 years old) ... son of Staci and Paul Weaver ... majoring in computer information systems.
