JMU Adds UVA Transfer

Orange Co. product Quintin Hunter will join the James Madison football team when it opens camp next week.

JMU coach Mickey Matthews said Friday that Hunter had been accepted academically by the school, completing his transfer from Virginia.

In 2009, Hunter was rated a four-star athlete by Rivals.com coming out of Orange Co., where he was an all-state defensive back twice.

Hunter redshirted last season at Virginia as a freshman, and bounced between quarterback and wide receiver.

He was one of five players to leave the Cavaliers in June. Hunter said at the time that his heart was no longer in playing football.

He's a very good athlete. Any idea where JMU plans to have him play?

Kid seems pretty beast and versatile. He played WR at UVA and apparently wanted to switch back over to QB, but don't think he fit in with London's style... seems from some descriptions I've read, he'd fit in perfect at QB in the JMU system, but we don't really need a QB.
High School and Personal
Dynamic playmaker as a left-handed signal caller and standout defensive back for coach John Kayajanian at Orange County HS … Rivals 4-star prospect … listed as the country’s No. 22 athlete by Rivals and No. 81 by ESPN … Scout lists him as the No. 106 wide receiver nationally … 96th on the Scout East Hot 100 list … rated the No. 12 player in Virginia by Rivals, No. 14 by TheSabre.com and the Roanoke Times and 15th by SuperPrep … two-time first-team all-state defensive back … first-team all-region, all-district and Daily Progress all-Central Virginia as a defensive back his senior year … also earned second-team all-Central Virginia quarterback from the Daily Progress and first-team all-district honors and second-team all-region at running back … rushed for more than 1,000 yards, passed for more than 1,000 yards and accounted for 35 touchdowns … threw for 2,065 yards and 18 touchdowns and rushed for 846 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior and was named first-team all-region at defensive back and second team all-region quarterback … all-area quarterback by the Free-Lance Star … district defensive player of the year … started at wide receiver as a sophomore … earned all-Central Virginia honors from the Daily Progress in basketball, averaging more than 10 points per game.

Apparently he WASN'T redshirted at UVGAY last season according to what I read on the CAA Zone and also the WHSV article:

"....Hunter appeared in nine games as a freshman wide receiver at Virginia last fall, then bounced between quarterback and wide receiver this past spring....."

JMU at WR lost:
-starter Rockheed McCarter (Denver Broncos camp last I heard),
-Bosco Williams (started a few games last season, was injured much of it)
-Marcus Charity- played

Returning
-Kerby Long (starter all of 08' and some of last yr)
-Marcus Turner (starter most of last yr)
-Julius Graves- saw PT last season
-Dae'Quan Scott- promising redshirt freshman
-Kaveon Seaton- last season's 3rd string QB has been moved to receiver

Past seasons JMU has had 3 starting receivers (one is more of a wingback)/6 on the 2 deep. I imagine this guy will at least be on the 2 deep. Good pickup. :thumb:

*Edit: D Scott didn't see PT as a true freshman as I had initially erroneously stated. Don't know why I was thinking that. He was redshirted.

Heck, JMU has only 5-6 I-A transfers on the entire roster.

-Will likely only start one transfer, Nick Emmons, who had to sit out last season after transferring from Army, at DT alongside pre season all CAA Ronnell Brown. And Emmons might be the better of the 2...

Only maybe 3 other tranfers on the 2 deep:
-Peter Rose at WS (VT)
-Lamar Middleton at DE (Cuse)
-Hunter at WR (UVGay)

Hardly transfer U.....

I don't think you can call Peter Rose a transfer if he was never enrolled at VT.

Your right, so that's one less.

It should be noted the importance of this transfer. He's a big WR - 6'2 and we were hurting in that position bc of the loss of Rockheed McCarter.

The Athleticism is what I like best. Throw it up and let him make plays.

Why would you say that? There always have been and will be plenty of schools with more transfers than what UD has had or will have. Just saying.

True. Also on the roster some prep school post grad (Fork Union) but I thought we were referring to just I-A transfers..

Ding, ding! We have a winner.

I like to rib back at all the people that ribbed us about transfers. UD is only showing 5 FBS transfers on the current roster, btw.

Mr. Hunter was cleared by the NCAA and practiced with the team today, JMU's first day of practice. He wore #16, but was working with the WRs.

:?: Haven't heard anything. Not sure who JMU is going to open the new stadium with. OOC I know have @ UNC and Liberty (likely away), so we'll need a home OOC in Sept to open the new stadium. No disrespect to CCSU (even if CCSU wins the NEC as predicted) but I was hoping for a more local team to open the new stadium. I was thinking it would maybe be VMI.

9/3 @ UNC (hopefully they'll be on probation after the majority of their defense is drafted)
Sept. 10 (non conf or bye)
Sept. 17 (non conf or bye)
Sept. 24 @ W&M
Oct. 1 Richmond (Family Weekend or HC)
October 8 Maine (Family Weekend or HC)
October 15 Villanova (Family Weekend of HC)
October 22 (non conf or bye)
October 29 @ODU
November 5 @ New Hampshire
November 12 Rhode Island
November 19 @ UMASS

No Delaware (about 40 min) or Towson (about 1.5 hrs) from me, as those are 2 of the 3 closest CAA to where I live, and closest, Nova (about 25 min), will be @ JMU. So CAA away games for me will be tween 5-6 hrs (ODU, W&M, UNH, UMass)

None taken :thumb: We're trying up here in Ct. and it's an uphill battle with the Evil Empire in Storrs 6 mi. away taking the lion's share of whatever crumbs of State Funding is available.
I had heard a rumor at sigh in and thought I'd ask... thanks for the reply.

The 2011 schedule has changed a bit - UD is slated now to play at JMU for a second year in a row, per the Delaware beat writer. Just part of the conference schedule juggling with ODU coming on board. And even that may not be final right now, but that's what they have currently.

and UD is going to be @ JMU, then if it replaces one of the current 4 home CAA games, I imagine it will be Maine Oct 8. Well see.

Here's the link where we saw it - from Tressolini who is the Blue Hen beat writer for the News Journal. His source is the UD Media Guide. It has UD@JMU on Sept 24, so your W&M game is, for now, likely on a different weekend.

http://blogs.delawareonline.com/college ... e-revised/
So now, here is the 2011 Delaware football schedule, and let’s make sure we throw that word “tentative” in there the way these things have a tendency to change. The trip to JMU, by the way, will mean two straight away games against the Dukes for the Hens.

Sept. 3-at Navy; Sept. 10-West Chester; Sept. 17-Delaware State; Sept. 24-at James Madison; Oct. 1-Old Dominion; Oct.8-Massachusetts; Oct. 15-at Towson; Oct. 22-Open; Oct. 29-at Maine; Nov. 5-William & Mary; Nov. 12-Richmond; Nov. 19-at Villanova.
