The field turf is going down and the goal posts are going up. The video scoreboard is about to be installed in front of the new field house. The $26+ million renovation of the stadium is almost complete.

Shaping up nicely. I'm jealous of all the new turf going down all over the place while App is playing on a POS carpet with field hockey lines.

Stadium looks like it will be nice once they get the finishing touches on it. I caught this article online as well about Kwabena Asante who is the Hofstra transfer and only senior on Lamar. I said it before and i'll say it again, from what i saw of him, i liked his style and running ability.

After Hurricane Rita blew through in 2005 they spent $1.5 million from insurance money rebuilding the pressbox. I guess they didn't want to spend any more money on it for now.

They said capacity will be about 15,300. It originally was built to hold 17,500 but for renovations they made the stadium ADA-compliant so that reduced capacity due to wider aisles and handicap seating. It's designed to be expandable to about 30K+ but who knows when that will happen.

expandable. what does that really mean? Any stadium can be expanded. But thanx for the pressbox info.

I take it to mean there is sufficient room and the current structure was designed with the next phase of expansion in mind. Yes any stadium is expandable but some are built to make it a lot more easier than others.

It means when it was built they already have plans for phased expansion.

Here's the original drawing of the stadium back in 1964 when it was built showing the stadium bowled in. Now that there's the Montagne Center on the north end and a larger athletic complex on the south end, it limits capacity. I doubt they'll be expanding it for at least 5 years anyways, especially if Lamar stays in the SLC.

"They said capacity will be about 15,300"

That's more than the combined seating capacity of last two schools added to the SoCon.
