New JMU scoreboard to be bigger than 2/3 of FBS

According to .Harrisonburg Daily News Record Reporter Mike Barber:
"JMU AD Jeff Bourne says new scoreboard will be 61x45, with the sides used for ads, leaving 45x25 for gameday programming, replays, etc."

45x25=1125 sq foot. According to this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_la ... e_football" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That would rank
#38 Clemson - 1,169
#39 JMU - 1,125
#40 Georgia - 1,092

if I-AA was including in the rankings. Can't find a list for I-AA. Does anyone have one bigger? (Remember, you have 2 different measurements, the overall structure size, and then the video board portion).

Ours is very new and MUCH larger than our old one. No idea on dimensions, though.

Don't know the size, but The Citadel's scoreboard is massive.

From the Citadel website: "Also completed is the installation of the Daktronics scoreboard-the largest scoreboard in the state of South Carolina. It features a huge videoboard that can display replays, live action and more. The scoreboard is the width of the field's playing surface and includes a state-of-the-art sound system."

Here is a link to their 2007 media guide. scroll down a few pages to get a look at the scoreboard.

It's not the size of the scoreboard that matters.
It's how many points you can put up on it (or how few you let the visiting team put up)

Yeah, I know. This has already been talked about over on the Zone. According to one of our posters (I'm too lazy to look up to verify):

Towson: Structure 60x45'
Videoboard 47'x 17' (799' sq ft)

JMU: Structure 61'x45',
Videoboard 45'x25' (1125 sq ft)

So JMU's will be about 40% bigger.

BTW, to reiterate, this new board won't be up till next season (2011').

i know that liberty's new one is 88' x 24' for the entire structure. I dont know how wide it is but the height of it is 24 feet for the video board.

Thank God!

I don't really care how big it is compared to everybody else's, but the renderings I saw had us keeping the old one and that was just going to be sad.

Lamar's new video scoreboard will be 50' x 25'. The frame is already up and they'll be installing it any day now.

The scoreboard is definitely massive, but the videoboard portion of it looks to be at most 1/5 of the total scoreboard. Can't find the dimensions for Citadel anywhere. Think JMU's videoboard will be bigger, but won't know unless someone has the dimensions for Citadel.

Our video board is tiny in comparsion...only 30' x 17' = 510'.

It gets the job done, and is 1000000000% better than not having a video board at all!

Just Montana's Video screen is 936 square feet. They are talking about total structure here.
At 936 sq. ft. for just the video screen. More than 1780 square feet easily with giant 6ft x 26ft JBL speakers on either side of the video screen and scoreboard and advertising below.

What is the actual size measurements of the video screen at JMU? Ours is 26x36, that is just video screen.

The 1st post on this thread:

So our 1125 sq ft videoboard (that's the video screen portion) will be about 20% bigger than your 936 sq ft.

Hey BDKJMU, are you one of those guys that drives a Ford F-350 to haul groceries?

While you're on your overcompensation kick, you'll be proud to know that Delaware's video board is only 320 sf (16' x 20'). Of course, we also outdraw you guys, so if we're going to make comparisons... :D

IF the Videoboard portion is 50X25, that is 1250 sq ft, which would be bigger than JMU's new one, and rank 36th among I-A according to the wiki link, and probably will be the biggest in all of I-AA.

Like the saying goes, everything is bigger in TX. Well, maybe not the stadium- I see it is listed at 15.3k capacity.

Don't know JMU's current videoboard size, but I'm guess its in that ball park. So if you were at least tripling the size of your videoboard you be talking about it too. :thumb:

Charleston Southern's scoreboard does more with less haha. Smallest stadium in big south. Smallest school in big south. But winningest team in last 5 years in big south.
