DeAndre Presley.
So says the QB coach – “”We feel like DeAndre is a pretty solid No. 1,” Brad Glenn, the Mountaineers’ quarterbacks coach, said yesterday. “He’s doing really well. I feel like DeAndre will start against Chattanooga.” Barnes is challenging Jackson for No. 2. “That’s still up in the air.”"

Probably not surprising news to the ASU faithful, but from the snippets we've received during the summer it sounded like this was a pretty close call for starter.
I'm not sure I'm loving this based on past performance, but he's the most experienced of the bunch at this point. Sounds like Jamal Jackson, the redshirt freshman who was challenging for starter, is now fighting to maintain #2 vs. true freshman Barnes.
I don't think at this point AE's shoes will be filled completely, but it's good to know we have some depth at QB.

Don't let the 1st half against ECU get you down on DP. Armanti would have looked like crap against ECU that first half with out offensive line failing to hold their blocks... And our defense was getting whipped as well.
I liked what I saw of him against WCU and the end of the Wofford game in '08 and I think we'll be in good hands.

So Jamal Jackson isn't the jesus of the football field like we were all convinced last season?

Honestly, you've probably seen as much of him as most of the ASU fans have. I'm not really sure where you're getting your information from since he hasn't taken a snap in regulation - there has been some preseason buzz about him, but that's all I've heard.

"Fact" is the guy that thinks Armanti has an average arm.

Sounds more like "fiction" to me. I really don't know where he's coming from on that one.

And this was derived from what? Obviously, you have heard more about him than I have.

I have faith in Presley to get it done. All he has to do is manage the game and let his weapons do the work. In time things will open up for him to run.

It's officially official.
ASU Football Notebook: Presley to Start at UTC
Appalachian State University football head coach Jerry Moore and quarterbacks coach Brad Glenn said after Wednesday’s practice that junior DeAndre Presley is expected to start at quarterback when Appalachian opens the 2010 season at Chattanooga on Sept. 4.
The acknowledgment comes as little surprise since Presley has worked almost exclusively with the first team since the beginning of fall camp on Aug. 6. With a huge edge in experience, Presley beat out redshirt freshman Jamal Jackson and true freshman Kalik Barnes for the starting assignment. Presley is slated to make his third-career start in the season opener at Southern Conference-rival UTC.
“He’s prepared to lead this football team,” Moore said of Presley. “He has played in big ballgames at both quarterback and wide receiver and he has shown that he can handle everything that we’re doing offensively well.”
“I’m also very pleased with (Jackson and Barnes),” Moore went on to say. “The thing that I have to remember sometimes is that neither of them has ever played in a college football game. But, we would be confident playing either of them if the situation arises.”
Presley is 1-1 as a starter. As a true freshman, he started the regular-season finale at archrival Western Carolina, accounting for 314 yards of offense (158 passing, 156 rushing) and four touchdowns (one passing, three rushing) to lead the Mountaineers to a 35-10 win. After the performance in the win at WCU, he became the first player in 17 years to be simultaneously named the SoCon’s Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week. Presley also got the starting nod in last year’s opener at East Carolina at East Carolina and totaled 101 yards and a touchdown in a little over one half of action.
In his only appearance at Chattanooga’s Finley Stadium, Presley completed 3-of-3 passes for 51 yards and a touchdown and ran 12 times for 101 yards and another score in just one half of a 49-7 rout over the Mocs as a true freshman in 2008.

I'm not a big fan of it but I hope he can manage the game and just git er done. I would like to see a bigger body like Jackson back there at QB. Presley is smaller than Armanti! Baffles me. If he fucks up too much at Chatty I will be one of the first calling for his head!
