FCS Players Getting Cut

Looking at the wire. A few interesting ones.
49ers waive WIU CB Patrick Stoudamire. Not really shocked here. I always thought he was over hyped.
Chiefs waive Maine OT Tyler Eastman. Not shocked here. I gave him a 4.20 grade when all was said and done but had him projected as a PFA and he certainly looked about like a 4.20-4.50 type player in the preseason from what I was told. 4-10-4.40 is free agent on my scale while 4.50-4.90 is priority free agent.
49ers waive UC Davis WR Bakari Grant. Not really shocked here. He has size and was a decent player but lacked big play speed and the ability to consistently block and separate enough to make a roster.
I do think Grant, like Stoudamire, are not done though and will get a chance somewhere else. Eastman might get another shot simply because his agent is tight with a few decision makers and thus could get a chance when he likely should be in the CFL or UFL right now.

Matt Nichols was cut a little over a week ago from Dallas.

Not like Stephen McGee looked any better.

How about Q Scott and James Ruffin from UNI? I haven't heard a lot on how those guys are doing.
I know Austin Howard has done fantastic in Philly, and has locked up the backup LT spot already.

Heard nothing on Q, but I've heard Ruffin had a back up spot at one point....I may have read it wrong though, and I don't remember where I read it.

I haven't seen any of their games but not totally shocked based on college production. I figured Nichols would be on a practice squad although getting cut already is not a good sign of that.

Scott is still on the roster in Chicago. 3rd team right now. Hoping to get on the practice squad.
Ruffin has one tackle so far. He is listed on the third team so either going to get released or make the practice squad. Unlikely they keep him on active roster running third team.

Falcons waive San Diego CB Gabe Derricks.
Colts waive Fordham OT Tyshovynsky and former NW State WR Dudley Guice.
Rams waive UT Martin OT Joe Gibbs.

This was from close to a week ago but I just saw that Delaware DL Brandon Gilbeaux was waived by the Bucs. He wasn't a bad player. Hopefully he can get on a practice squad or lands in the UFL.

It was posted on the GSU message board that Armanti Edwards was not listed on the Panthers' WR depth chart and was listed as the #3 PR. If this is true it doesn't bode well for his chances of making the team.

I don't see any way they don't keep a 3rd round pick. Especially given what they had to give up to GET that extra pick.

They would be stupid to cut him.
They didn't draft him as a WR/PR (positions they knew he had never played) expecting him to make significant contributions by the end of August.

Exactly. Edwards isn't going to get cut. Now Dexter Jackson on the other hand is probably going to or he may be retained for the practice squad.

Armanti leads the team in cathes so I think he is safe.

I just can't see them cutting a third round pick whom they also gave up a 2011 second rounder for. Many of these GMs have egos and even if Edwards should be cut their ego won't allow them to be wrong on a third round pick this early. He might get cut next year but he is guaranteed at least one year with them.

Not sure it would have mattered. As I said before the draft he is an excellent pass catcher but he was not strong enough nor had the skills to be a blocker in the NFL. He also wasn't very big at around 6'4, 235. He could possibly make it in the NFL with 1-2 years of experience and improvement as a blocker in the CFL or UFL though. He was certainly an excellent receiver who could stretch the field.

Cardinals waived TE Dominique Byrd, OT Casey Knips, and C/G David Moosman.
Knips was an OT at South Dakota State.

I know Dallas is pretty set in the receiving corps but I thought Hudgins would at least make the practice squad.

I hope TE Phfaler doesn't get cut by the Titans, what with the catches and open field plays he's made in the preseason so far. Not sure if most teams carry 4 TE's, which is what he'd need to make it. If nothing else I'd think he's got a spot on the PS.

Jaguars waived former Tenn State C Cecil Newton.
Former Cornell OT Kevin Boothe put on PUP list by Giants.
Giants put former William & Mary DE and current LB Adrian Tracy on injured reserve.

Former App State WR Dexter Jackson was waived by Carolina today. No shock though. His playing time had gone down and he never has shown he could play receiver. Part of this was the fault of Carolina as they didn't give him a shot as a return man but put him at receiver where he has never really proven he could make plays. I would suspect he might get one more shot but it looks like his career will be over within a year unless he improves.
SC State WR Oliver Young was waived by Carolina. No shock when you look at how much he played but Young is a player who could possibly rebound and make it back in the NFL with a year or two in the UFL as he continues to develop.

Shame about Dexter. The big criticism on him was that he shied away from the NFL caliber hits - at least when he was with Tampa last year. He was getting praise during training camp this year for his catches though.
