Cupcakes & Idiots

This write is an idiot....

About those silly newish names: Football Bowl Subdivision (Division I-A) and Football Championship Subdivision (Division I-AA). D1-A and D1-AA were perfectly good names, so why the change?

Seriously, one sentence he properly identifies the former names as I-A and I-AA then the very next sentence his misidentifies the names as 1-A and 1-AA what a complete moron.

There was also this bit from the story...

What cupcake will upset an unsuspecting football power? Pitt hosts lower-division New Hampshire, which the Panthers surely scheduled expecting an auto-win. But reader Bryan Reynolds of Haverhill, Mass., notes the UNH Wildcats have five straight victories against Division I opponents, including Rutgers and Northwestern.

UNH a cupcake? Really dude? Get a clue....

He also identifies William & Mary as a cupcake opponent for North Carolina...

This guy shouldn't be allowed to write about college football.

Division I-AA -- which the NCAA now insists on calling the FCS, perhaps for Football Cupcake Subdivision
what a first class douche that guy is.

This guy obviously doesn't know anything about college football on a historical scale. He must get his info from Kirk Herbstreit who is always the first person to trash FCS "cupcakes"

Just to be devil's advocate here, let's be a little honest, the record of FCS teams playing against FBS teams over the past decade is pretty embarrassing. Typically we can count the number of FCS wins in those game on one hand and almost all of the wins are against either MAC or Sun Belt teams. And most of the games, especially some that he calls out, are out and out blowouts. We can point to Appy St beating Michigan and all the CAA wins last year, but the truth is they are few and far between. If we want more respect from guys like this and the general public at large, win the games. Right now, the record FCS has against FBS doesn't do anything to make anyone rethink the cupcake designation.

From College Gameday, about two hours prior to kickoff of ASU/Michigan, Kirk Herbstreit says -

"you have players and fans who want to see Virginia Tech against LSU, they don't want to see Appalachian State, they don't want to see easy non-conference games.....these 1-AA teams should not be on the schedule for Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama - teams like that have no business playing 1-AA teams."

Your right in that FCS have to start winning a good number of games against FBS teams to gain national respect and recognition. But so many of these "experts" and "analysts" act like FCS players are like sub-human species who are no better than their local high school team down the road. It will take some time but the gap will keep closing and we'll see more FCS teams not only competing with FBS schools, but will beat them IMO.

UNH is a cupcake to Texas. To Pitt?

No way!

I wouldn't call Bill a cupcake to Chapel Hill, either. To Miami (FL), perhaps. But not to Chapel Hill.

These games are good possibilities for an FCS win.

you guys are not as smart as you think. you are saying that will and mary is not a cupcake for UNC??? they dam well should be....because the number 18 team in the nation and a really big chance to push for the ACC championship....they should be able to handle will and mary with 2nd string players.

that being said anything can happen. but yes WM is a cupcake for UNC.....may be overlooked but a cupcake non the less.

ps. you said to miami they would be a cupcake....news flash read a paper UNC is only 5 spots behind Miami in the polls

No...WM should be a cupcake for UNC. UNC has the talent to be a BCS team this year...number 1 or not in the FCS that shouldn't be close

Funny. I like the App State name drop. Apparently he has forgotten what happened why they played in the "Big House". What a fucking joke.

Iowa had the talent last year to make it to a BCS game and win the Orange Bowl... yet only beat UNI 17-16, mind you a UNI team that missed the playoffs... Was UNI a cupcake for Iowa? No.

Same here. William & Mary is an elite FCS and shouldnt be considered a cupcake for a lower half top 25 type team. And the only reason UNC has a BCS shot is cause the ACC is very weak this year.

ahhahahaha and you try and call people stupid. the ACC this year is suppose to be the best its been in a LONG time. like last 10 years. UNC, FSU , MIami, are all suppose to hold top 15 spots. And YES UNI was a cupcake for IOWA......but iowa over looked them and got beat. its like a 15 beating a 2 in a basketball tourney. a cup cake but some times if you dont play hard enough you lose. WM is tough not sayign they are not. but 9 out of 10 times UNC should beat them by atleast 20+. i understand we want to be the big dogs but we are not. not the UM not UNI not WM. any top 25 FBS team should be able to wax any top 25 FCS team with their 2nd string.

its like WM playing Grand Valley....or washburn. SHOULD be a waxing

If UNC and Florida State are suppose to be Top 15 teams this year why arent they ranked there now??????

Ummmm first of all # 18 ranked UNC.....and # 20 Flordia State......pretty sure that means they are ranked. With the team they are both returnign i would not be surprised to see all three FSU,UNC and miami break the top ten at points in the year. DO YOU EVEN CHECK THINGS BEFORE YOU BLERT THEM OUT??

and i see your post says ranked there now.....well why is not the winner of the national championship ranked #1 now???? why dont we just finalize the standings now??? BECAUSE SOME TEAMS LOOK BETTER OR WORSE THAN WHAT THEY DID BEFORE CAMP STARTED. the freshman are here. the transfers are here and injuries have taken place. SO overall most college football experts are saying the ACC will be a tough conf to be in. not the toughest but still rough.

Look asshole. You said they are suppose to hold top 15 spots... My question is that if that is true why arent UNC and Florida State ranked in the top 15 now... I realize they are ranked, but they arent ranked in the top 15.

you said they are suppose to be top 15 teams... if thats true right now then they would be ranked there.... reality is no one knows really what they are and they can just as easily drop from the top 2 as they can move into the top 15.

As a conference the ACC is ranked 5th only ahead of the Big East for BCS conferences... and the drop off from 4th to 5th is big... As I said... the ACC is a weak conference overall and the few good teams look a whole lot better than they really are.

yea and the national title winner often predicted different than the #1 team in the nation at season start. i guess a few ppl have a hard time thinking that our schools are not anything more than a warm up game for those schools. there is a reason we get paid......we know we are less of a team...the schools know and the players know. Talents is 5 times what we have up at UNC rather than WM. WE ARE CUPCAKES!!!! our rosters talent is C at best comparted to B+ and A's of the top 25. CUP CAKES!!!!! EASY....MONEY GAMES....how else do you want it layed out for you. charleston state is a CUPCAKE FOR MONTANA!!! same deal lower divisions. They dont give teams 500 K to be a close game. they give em 500 K to get smoked. ANY top 25 team in FBS should KILL any top 25 FCS TEAM!!! PERIOD END OF STORY....if your think any different your nuts

complaining about someone typing 1-AA instead of I-AA is really quite petty. After all, when saying it, you say "one-double a", not "eye double a".

Same thing with Super Bowls. Someone might refer to Super Bowl 35, instead of XXXV. Sure, they technically used the incorrect format, but who the f**k cares?

ANY FCS team matched up against a non BCS caliber team is a cupcake. How seriously the FBS team takes the FCS team determines the outcome of the game. This is a mental game as much as it is physical.
