This is a big game for Maine with a brutal schedule coming up... no gimmies. I would like to see a big crowd but the heat may keep some people away!?!

Not sure who the weather favors...though I do think it slightly evens the playing field towards Albany keeping this one close. Why?

Last year's experience at sweaty GSU
Albany is used to hot summer days...and frigid winters

Albany's running backs should be pretty good...and I have to think our gp is to slam it between the tackles all day. DL of Maine is going to be tired.

Conversely, it seems Maine's choice (perplexing to me and other Dane fans) at QB will lead them to pound it as well. This plays into UA's strength; seems our DL may be stronger than last year's (especially the ends) and though young, the LB's seem to have some real ability. Albany's major weakness is in the defensive backfield where we are replacing some serious talent. I would have thought Maine would have wanted to pass it all over us, but the QB selection says otherwise.

Either way, my gut says this puts the game more in a 5-8 pt Maine favorite from the listed 14.

Good luck to both teams!

I think that the warm weather will actually help attendance.......most people in Maine don't have air conditioning in their homes.

Still 92 degrees.......1.5 hours till game time!

354 showed up to see Maine beat Michigan 2-1 in field hockey in a 3:00pm game this afternoon (they are usually lucky to get 100).......that's a good sign for a big football crowd tonight.

Very excited about this game. I think UA can match up, but the team does have questions. I do think weather will be a major factor.

The fact that we have 3 legit RBs will help us trememdously today. I expect Drew Smith, Dillon Romain and Tremain Wilson to each get a ton of carries tonight and Paul Booker at TE will get a ton of little dump passes.

Now our depth in the defensive secondary is questionable, but with Warren Smith under center for Maine I'm not so concerned. Nothing against him, but he's not as much of a passing threat as some other QBs.

Good test for both teams. Danes are looking at two scorchers in a row to start the season (next week in Nagadoches, Texas).

UAlbany, let's do the NEC proud in this game!

- Since 2003, a NEC team has beaten a foe every year from a conference with an autobid to the FCS playoffs, including Albany’s 20-16 triumph over Maine in 2009.

- The Great Danes have beaten at least one team from an autobid conference for the last four years running. In 2006, they beat Lehigh (17-16) and Delaware (17-10); in 2007, they beat Fordham (23-20); in 2008, they beat Hofstra (22-16), and in 2009, they beat Maine (20-16).

Already like DiLella. Didnt force the issue on that 3rd down out of bounds pass....and had great pocket presence on the 4th down play.

Smith is Smith-- guy is awesome. Strong as heck...and just looks like a player.

Albany looking very tough so far.

Man, Albany fans definitely called it on Smith at QB for Maine......his first throw was an INT.

In a turn from past misery, Ford elects to kick the FG from close.

Albany 3

Maine 0

Ironically, his last pass vs. the Danes was also an INT......by the same player. Jake Ciccarello.

McCarthy needs to loosen the reigns at times. That up the middle run should have been to the outside; the play is open all day.

End of the first.

Albany 3

Maine 0

A. Smith for the Danes looks good.

W. Smith for Maine looks bad.

Albany, frankly, has shut down Maine's offense...not that Albany has lighted it up. About 30 yards for Maine...55 for Albany.
