What is it? G-State had a reported 30,000 at a game last night in Atlanta

. That can't be far off from a record can it? GSU and ODU may be 1 & 2 for first game butts in seats at 19,000 and 30,000.
Go CAA

Maybe tampajag can weigh in, but I think some of the HBCU games have been well in excess of 30K. Excellent showing for Ga. St. for a first game though.

Yale-Harvard have had games with over 53,000.
I wouldn't be suprised if the Bayou Classic has that number beaten.

What is the largest number of empty seats at an FCS game? Did Georgia State break the record last night?

Yea, the Yale Bowl games with Harvard are close to the top...
Ga. St. was very nice, but no where near the record...
EDIT: Yale Bowl seats 61K plus...

And as far as non-Ivy-League, non HBCU games, I think some of the NC games Marshall played in Huntington topped that.

I belive App has been up that high as well. Cat/Griz could easily do 45,000k if we had a stadium somewhere in Montana that could hold that many.

We did 30,931 for the Wofford ESPN Halloween beatdown in '08 - not bad given that we only have 21,650 seats.

I'm sure Yale's a contender for that one, too. Must have had games with 50,000+ empties. If not, the Albany game this year may challenge.
Or Tennessee St. at LP Field (but that's not a campus stadium)

640 Duquesne Bryant 21-NOV-09 825
641 Duquesne Central Conn. St. 17-OCT-09 572
643 Duquesne Wagner 31-OCT-09 527

those numbers could double as Baltimore Orioles attendance numbers

If it rains, you will have 58k out of the 61k seats in the Yale Bowl empty........unless it's Harvard.
Nice weather usually means 10k to 25k attendance depending on the opponent, of course.

If ODU had a bigger stadium, I think they could get more than the 19,782 Foreman Field. I assume this because ODU had to turn away hundreds of season ticket holders. Not to mention its close to impossible to get single game tickets. The only that are available is if the away team doesn't use theirs and/or the students as well the fact we have a lot of people get a free seat by watching from the top of the parking garage.
As for Georgia State's crowd last night that was REALLY impressive. The only thing that looked weird is that even with 30,000 it still looked half empty by the pics I saw. I don't expect them to sell the whole Georgia Dome out...just an observation...either way, it looked like a great place to be last night. It's also going to be interesting to see how many they draw on a Saturday when both GTech and UGA are playing.
I think I heard the University itself only sold 4,000 tickets? Doesn't sound right since it was around 30,000...

I've been to a couple of Yale-Harvard games in the bowl that were announced as sell outs, but that was in the 70's and early 80's - before Yale and Harvard became I-AA/FCS.

FAMU and BCC routinely draw 65,000-70,000 for their classic game every November at the Florida Citrus Bowl.
Any true hardcore football fan should come down for that weekend, it is one of the best atmospheres I've ever seen.

Yea, i think you're right, ODU should add a deck onto the side opposite the parking garage. doesnt have to be huge, long as its the same clam shape and between 2k-6k.

I would assume that ODU will replace each side of the clamshell eventually, no? The rounded corners take away a lot of capacity for a growing program that is already sold out. No reason why ODU shouldn't expand to 30-35K within 10 years I'd think.

The one thing with foreman field and some of the surrounding buildings is that its marked as an historical landmark so it would be very tough to just demolish the existing structures. In other words, they would have to build onto the current structure somehow. Like you said, its going to be really interesting to see what the stadium looks like in about ten years because we'll be in the CAA for 9 years by then and with the way the school is committed to having a good program should be very competitive by then.

I'm sure it will be an eye opener when they play Delaware in two weeks considering they haven't played in front of a crowd over 7k since 2005. 20k+ will be their Super Bowl

In 2002 - the Bayou Classic drew 72,538
In 2003 - the Florida Classic drew 73,358
for a non-classic game SU/Jackson State drew 65,000 in 1999. That game
