Who impressed you most and least in week 1?

What team in the FCS impressed you most the first week of the season?
What team impressed you the least, or what team disappointed you the most with their performance?
What did they do/not do that is the reason you picked them.
I expect J'ville state to get most of the impressed because of their win. However, it may not be them. It could be a team that won big as expected (NAU, Montana, SIU, etc..) but improved in areas that needed. It could be a team that lost, but was improved.

I will say this, our head coach last year was embarrassed about what had happened to our defense. He fired our coordinator who had been at NDSU for not even a year and basically took a very personal approach to getting things back on track. I think that played a big role, the defense was noticeably better in the spring game and yesterday it looked like a completely different group than I had seen in say the previous two seasons.
He also decided to go young and work some more speed onto both sides of the ball. That worked out well defensively, offensively there are still some kinks. Our defense was playing so well we pretty much went ball control the entire second half, pretty much put all the pressure on KU's young QB to make plays.

Most: Missouri State
I knew they were going to be good, but never expected them to really beat up on EKU.
Least: Illinois State
I also did not expect ILSU to be that good this year although many on here predicted them to be a playoff team. Nearly lost to a D2 team and gave up around 500+ yards of offense to them.... That won't cut it.

instead of playing american football,
they decided to play euro football (soccer).
it was actually quite the high-scoring game.

I hate to say it, but NDSU. They started how many freshman? It's a team nobody really expected anything out of and many had picked to be mid to low MVFC team, and then they go and stick toe to toe with a B12 school(albeit a poor one). At least JSU was ranked in the FCS, which I guess if you are a ranked FCS team you should be able to go somewhat toe-to-toe with FBS schools, or at least hang. Still JSU is impressive no doubt.
Ill State is definitely a shock for poor performance

Most: LLamar. After being mothballed for 21 years, they came into McNeese and played toe to toe and almost came out with a win. That's way more impressive than Georgia State and ODU beating up a bunch of patsies in their first seasons.
Least: Maine. Getting blanked out at home. Come on, at least get a field goal.

I'll admit being an ODU fan, we did play mostly patsies last year but give us credit for at least scheduling some better opponents this year...schools like JU, WM, Cal Poly, GWebb, Hampton, and so on.
As for Georgia State...they play Jax State who just upset Ole Miss and the Defending BCS Champs. Enough Said.
A lot impressed me in the first week - JU's offense...very balanced offense with McGregor, Small, and their recievers. Jax State and PC's trick play.
Least impressed: ODU's defense

You're right. I think rather than 1st season I should say 1st game. I don't mean it to demean Georgia State or ODU, but just a comparison. Lamar dove in to the deep end head first and did fine. It earns a lot more respect than beating Shorter or Chowan IMHO.

605 yards, to be exact.
Ouch.
Most would be NDSU, Jacksonville State, and UMass...but for least its hard to top beating a DII team at home only by a two point conversion success...Eri Czerniewski had 493 yards through the air for Central Missouri State...yeah.
Illinois State is officially off my playoff bubble already...and with their upcoming schedule (@ Northwestern, @ SDSU, vs. Missouri State, & vs. Southern Illinois the next for weeks) its hard to imagine them getting back in the picture.

1) Jacksonville State - beat an SEC team..and they say Boise State couldn't compete in the SEC...
2) NDSU - they were a dangerous team on the rise and beating or almost beating FBS teams with regularity a few years ago..nice to see them get back to what they were..
3) Appy - nice comeback win..shouldn't have been allowed by Chatty.
4) Denarious McGhee QB- Montana State - First freshman qb to be named starter(to begin season) since early 80's and played like a veteran out of gates. MSU has struggled to find a quality starter at that position for years and they may have finally found one to tag with a decent defense.
Peter Nyguen UM Griz - may lead FCS in PR/KR yards this season.
