The Cal Poly AD has a planned announcement at 2:00pm Tuesday. Rumor is that UC Davis and Cal Poly will join the Big Sky as football only members. SUU will join as a full member. This seems like more than chatter, anybody else hear about this? Big Sky would be awesome...very happy if this is true.

With a simultanious announcement that UND and USD are joining the MVFC maybe???

This would be a great move, sure hope its true. Especially adding SUU.

If this is true (not saying that it is), it sounds like the Big Sky is trying to hedge its bets in case they lose members to other conferences (i.e the WAC). Could it be that Cal Poly and Davis will announce themselves they are moving to the WAC? It has been a long time (since Gonzaga in 1980) that the Big Sky did not have the same members in football and basketball.

I'm sorry. I'm still not buying that the Big Sky will let Cal Poly and Davis in as football only. The conference insisted that we had to reinstate basketball in order to apply for admission in the mid 90's. They were not going to let us come in as football only.

That is why I called it a rumor rather than a fact. However it is a fact that the AD and University have a a scheduled press conference to discuss the "the football program's future". I'm posting it in a fan forum ... I didn't swear under oath to Judge Judy.

Then I will say that it is more likely the press conference is to discuss the move to the WAC as the WAC needs to add members after losing Fresno and Nevada. The Big Sky does not need to add anyone, let alone going against a 30-year tradition of having its members play in conference as football AND basketball together.

UND is hardly "close".

I don't want teams just because they are "close". I would like teams that aren't terrible in our conference, USD and UND fit into that category.

So how do you guys know this announcement isn't to expand the stadium or close the football program or fire the coach after a poor first game or move to the Pioneer league?

That would be AWESOME if were the case, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I'll believe it when I see it.

It would be awesome to have Poly and Davis in the Sky............however, I'll believe it when I see it, I suppose.

After barely beating D2 Humboldt State, it might be to announce the dropping of the sport.

I don't like the idea of us adding UND and USD. I'd prefer Drake going scholly, MN State-Mankato, One of the D-III UW's or even EIU coming back.

Didn't a 4-7 Cal Poly team beat the snot out of Sac State last year 38-19? People in glass houses should not throw stones.

Cal Poly record the last 6 years:

2003: 7-4
2004: 9-2
2005: 9-4
2006: 7-4
2007: 7-4
2008: 8-3
2009: 4-7

Cal Poly is 5-0 against Sac State during that time and went to the playoffs twice. What were Sac States records those years? How many D-IAA/FCS playoffs games has Sac State played in?

Why all the UNI hate for the UxD's? Both were solid programs in D2, and as primary state schools, much bigger upside than anything else in the area.
