Got the day off to a great start whipping a little booty on the cornhole boards. I am undefeated on BigDawgPop's boards and my son has yet to score a point on me. This isn't my son in the pic, but I whipped this kid too!

GW managed to rustle up some pretty girls to hold the baloons while our boys took the field. Football is always better when the pretty girls get dressed up.

GW's day got off to a good start when Jordan Woods sacked QB Zac Brindise and forced a fumble which we recovered.

It was also great to see RB Patrick Hall come off of the Disabled List to play his first game of the season.

Bryce Nixon scored an interception of Zac Brindise's pass.

The First Quarter muddled along with both defenses playing tough until WCU sacked QB Chandler Browning and forced him to cough the ball up. The fumble was recovered by WCU who took it to the house for the first TD of the game.
Brindise and Browning followed with ints and it appeared this day was going to be dominated by the Ds. With 3 minutes left in the 1st Quarter, Zac Brindise hit Marquel Pittman on a 78 yd TD pass for the first offensive score of the game. After some more muddling by both offenses, the half ended with WCU ahead 14-0. During the break, there was lots of head scratching going on. Where was the offense that beat D-I Akron the week before? How was WCU able to so effectively shut down our run game? Our defense was solid, but they had to have some offensive support so they weren't on the field the whole game.
Things didn't get any better offensively for either side as the Third Quarter got underway. Both teams had 2 3 and outs to start the quarter.
Finally, with a couple of minutes left to play in the 3rd Quarter, John Rock connected with Marquis Sanders for GW's first TD of the game.

GW's defense got another 3 and out and GW took the ball over. Two plays later, QB John Rock threw an int that was returned for a WCU TD. GW responded with a solid 11 play offensive drive that ended with a 1 yd TD run by QB John Rock bringing the score to 21-14. GW was one score away with plenty of time left to play.

Unfortunately, WCU's RB, Michael Johnson took the handoff on the first play of the following series and ran 60 yds for a TD. GW's next drive was ended by Torez Jones' 4th interception of the evening and the game was over.
Good win for a scrappy WCU team that needed a win badly. Their D did a great job of containing what had been a pretty damn good running game. They also did a nice job of taking away our long outside passes. Here's hoping our young QBs [and coaches] get a good review of the film to learn from this experience. Sam Houston State will be looking for their first W on Saturday while GW looks to regroup. I look forward to seeing the Bearkats fans in Huntsville.
Go Runnin' Bulldogs!
