Just found out that a College Gameday crew was in Cheney yesterday interviewing coaches and players for a feature about the red turf on College Gameday in the next couple of weeks. They also took a Eagle helmet with them for the show. It'd be pretty cool to see if they use it.

Red turf…..love it or hate it one thing is for sure, its one hell of a marketing tool. You get yourself on College Gameday and have Corso mention it, thats golden facetime for an FCS programs.

Red Turf To Be Featured on ESPN GameDay: A feature on Eastern's new red turf is expected to air this week during ESPN GameDay coverage from Boise, Idaho, where the Broncos host Oregon State on BSU's blue turf. An ESPN crew, led by feature producer Lydelle King, was in Cheney last Saturday and Sunday videotaping highlights, interviews and the turf itself. The show, which features Chris Fowler, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard, airs Saturday (Sept. 25) from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Pacific time.

Damn straight it is. I love the game they're featuring it over, it's perfect. Granted the name is pretty embarrassing (The Inferno... really?), people will be paying attention to see if we can produce like Boise State did on their smurf turf, especially after the signature win over Montana.

Herbfucker is a douche. In the end, with all his cockiness and his know-it-all attitidue, he will end up shedding a bad light on EWU. :twocents:

I actually see DH being rather cool about this.

Corso is too fucking stupid to know what country EWU is in.

And Fowler is only as smart as the people on the show with him.

Luckily for us they're only providing commentary, not doing the actual documentary/feature video. In the end, it's going to be great exposure for our program and FCS in general.

IMO, the FCS needs better quality facilities and more competitive programs and less tasteless gimmickry. Red turf in a high school-like stadium isn't enhancing anyone's image.

It's enhancing ours. :D It's getting our name out there, providing excitement around the program, which is only going to help with recruiting and ticket sales. After we get the video board put in after this season, the visitors side is next on the to do list. AD Bill Chaves is getting things done for the program and University. :thumb:

Great article on Bloomberg.com about the turf:

Red Is the New Green for Eastern Washington's Money-Making Football Field
...

A Ticket Seller

Eastern Washington sold 6,400 season tickets for the 2010 season, 3 1/2 times last year’s total, ticket manager Troy Kirby said. Single-game tickets went on sale Sept. 1 and the 3,000 available seats for the Eagles’ home opener against the University of Montana sold out in 23 minutes.

“I have the best advertising product there is,” Kirby, 34, said in a telephone interview. “I’ve had a lot of people go see the field in person and then say, ‘Wow, I want to buy season tickets.’”

Dale Kliest owns Fast Eddies, a bar in Spokane, Washington, 18 miles (29 kilometers) from Cheney. Kliest bought 40 season tickets for giveaways and other promotions.

“I would have bought Montana tickets regardless, but I bought season tickets because of the turf,” Kliest said in a phone interview. “There is a lot of buzz about it.”

Eastern Washington’s first batch of “Red is the New Green” T-shirts sold out online in less than a week.

“The red turf is providing us an opportunity to sell a new product line,” Bob Anderson, the bookstore’s director, said in a telephone interview. “It’s also going to help sell the basic sweatshirt by creating excitement that was not there before.”

I saw the piece on Gameday, they didn't say anything good or bad about the turf. It sure didn't do anything to enhance the "FCS image", though.

Loved how the Eastern Wash AD talked about how they haven't beat Montana in Cheney since 1991, but this year the field did it. Not giving a lot of cred to the team

How do the eastern guys feel about that? Your field is getting credit for the win by your own athletic director. Nice gimmick you got there. :coffee:
