It's come to our attention that #UMGrizzlies athletic director Jim O'Day has told an alumni group that UM will get an invite from the WAC

The WAC isn't much with the teams that are leaving, Fresno, BSU, Nevada. The WAC is a sinking ship in my opinion.

If they can stabilize they might be able to hold on...and they can only stabilize by adding FCS teams as full members. :twocents:

Agreed. But from what I have heard, Montana's going to accept the invite anyway. Terrible idea, IMO - the WAC is a joke without Fresno, BSU, and Nevada.

I'd like to see the business case for accepting this offer.

It would be a sad day.

It's not like they haven't been able to make it look like they are making much less than they do in the past so they just move a revenue here and an expense there and you can make it look good I'm sure.

The old AD ruined a great thing they had going with bball back in 1993 looking for money so this doesn't seem out of character if they do it.

Well, I realize the timing is for the most part out of their control, but doesn't it seem a bit ironic that this would be happening as we sit in dead last?

Not true. Montana isn't going to accept the offer.

Ironic indeed, but as hard a time as the Griz have had in the early going this year, I still don't expect them to finish worse than tied for second in the BSC. Worse-case scenario you'll have to play a first round game, and then most likely host in the second-round anyway.

I personally would not want to see this happen, because it would hurt the BSC immeasurably in terms of the strength of the conference. I love Big Sky football, and it's hard to imagine a BSC without Montana.

Still, if UM feels as if it's in their best interests to move to the WAC and that this is the best time to do it, well then more power to them, I suppose.

As much isht as I give Montana, I would not want to see a program with that much tradition flounder in mediocrity in the FBS competing for a shot to play in the Humanitarian Bowl. Just doesn't make much sense to me, but in the end the almighty dollar will prevail.

Not true. Montana isn't going to accept the offer.
I don't know about that.

It stands to reason that if UM weren't at least heavily considering the offer, then they wouldn't go through the trouble to publicize that they've been offered by the WAC. If they're not going to accept, why are they even entertaining the notion?

Cal-Poly and UC-Davis made bold statements about their WAC interests when they joined the BSC. I think PSU is most likely out, but with recent developments there they could still be an option for the WAC in the future. MSU has stated that they have not been in contact with the WAC.

That leaves Sac State and Montana, who up until this point have been very tight-lipped about the whole WAC situation. I think both will get invites, and sadly, at least one of them accepts......perhaps both.

Like Azgriz, I'd like to see how it pencils out. And if Montana won't work, you can be d....sure it won't go with PSU.

Question for Griz fans (same as on AGS): what is the maximum capacity that you think you could fill? I know that Wa-Griz is around 25K now, but how much do you think you could build it out and still fill it? Not trying to be a smart a$$, I just have no clue about the general buzz for Grizzlies football. I know it's more than 25K, but is it 40K, 60K???

I have no idea what is or will be but I know that the Gizz leaving the FCS ranks is a blow to the FCS in general (obvious)

If I were a Gizz alum/fan I'd probably want a move to 1A and if it's not the WAC, who and when? I think every alum/fan of a FCS program that is on the fence leans towards 1A but the grass is not always that green on the other side; WAC, MAC, Sunbelch...tough choices and the result is not always known for years...

Perhaps 30K'ish...In that area is where the stadium could be full.

So would you think that an expansion to 40K is all that would be needed? That doesn't sound too burdensome. I was thinking that once you move up (if you do), you might as well expand and get everybody in there you can. I haven't even looked at the numbers, but I would think 30-40K would put you in the upper echelon of WAC teams.
