Jacks must cut down on unforced errors

Post by dbackjon »

At the end of the day when NAU coach Jerome Souers got on the bus to leave Southern Utah last Saturday after his team's 19-14 win, the 11th-year head coach was pleased his team was leaving with a victory.

After watching the film and studying the numbers, there was plenty that stood out to Souers and several areas where he'd like to see improvement. Atop that list were penalties and turnovers. NAU committed 13 penalties and lost 124 yards on flags and also turned the ball over three times. "Early in the year, as a coach, there is a level of understanding that these things are going to take place until your team gets solidified and you're not rotating guys in and out of the lineup," Souers said. "But, now that the games are for conference and now that the games count differently, in order for us to achieve our goals, we need to take that part of the game, the margin of mistakes, and pull them out."
