NAU coach Jerome Souers announced Wednesday that senior Lance Kriesien will start at quarterback at Northern Colorado on Saturday in the Big Sky Conference opener for both teams.

Kriesien had started the previous 13 games under center for NAU, but was passed over in favor of sophomore Michael Herrick last week at Southern Utah. Herrick went 20-for-34 for 196 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

However, when the fourth quarter rolled around and the Jacks were locked in a tight game, Souers made the switch and went with Kriesien. The Houston native responded, going 4-for-5 for 37 yards. He scored the eventual game-winning touchdown on an 8-yard run midway through the fourth quarter.

"Lance showed tremendous leadership skills against Southern Utah and the offensive unit rallied with his play," Souers said. "So, that's the direction we're going to go."

those are the kind of games to make those calls in and hopefully he keeps it rolling for you guys dback. It will be interesting to see if we will get Selle some more reps against CW with the 1's to get a little more feel for how he's gonna do in case Berq really struggles or gets hurt. Good luck to the Lumberjacks this weekend, I know they kicked Appaholics ass last weekend so this should be a breeze.

Thanks - I am having some of the Jacks flown in to deal with OB as well.

Did Souers go with Herrick because he thought Kriesien wasn't as good, or because he needed Kriesien at RB?

A little of both. Injuries to the RB corp made the decision easier
