This is not who would be in the top five but who I would put in the top five based on what I have seen on film and the accomplishments of these guys just this season.
1. QB DeAndre Presley, Appalachian State, Jr.- 79-118, 1100 yds, 9 TDs, 0 INT, 66.9%, 220.00 yds/gm, 170.4 pass eff., 71 carries, 450 yds, 7 TDs, 6.3 ypc in 5 games.
I don’t think he will win it because folks won’t want to give App a third straight Payton but Presley was the man everyone talked about how he would be the weak spot for ASU on offense and yet he is third nationally in pass efficiency and a big reason why ASU is ranked no. 1 and undefeated.
2. QB Jeremy Moses, Stephen F. Austin, Sr.- 136-221, 1532 yds, 13 TDs, 3 INT, 61.5%, 306.4 yds/gm, 136.5 pass eff., 8 carries, -39 yds in 5 games.
Moses is a returning All-American who is fourth nationally in passing yards per game. Outside of his first game he has protected the ball well and been efficient. He is a big reason why they are ranked in the top 10 of the polls.
3. RB Nate Eachus, Colgate, Jr.- 156 carries, 725 yds, 9 TDs, 4.6ypc, 145.00 yds/gm, 9 catches, 91 yds, 10.1ypc in 5 games.
Eachus is currently third in the nation in rushing and has proven to be a workhorse early in the season. His reputation vaults him slightly above Harris and McGhee.

Harris leads SEMO this year on a team that has gone from an unknown to a top 25 team. Harris is among the national leaders in rushing and has a whopping 6.1 yards per catch while showing he can produce as a receiver as well.

MY TOP FIVE VOTE
1. LB J.C. Sherritt, Eastern Washington, Sr.- 66 TT, 4 TFL, 1 sack, 2 INT, 3 PBU, 2 QBH in 6 games.
Sherritt has been good but also is benefitting from nobody emerging with big numbers in sacks or tackles for loss. While Sherritt is not a highly rated NFL prospect because he is small he is that tough, productive, and consistent college linebacker who just produces. He entered the season as one of the leading candidates and is one of three or four who could legitimately take home the award at this point.
2. FS Mark LeGree, Appalachian State, Sr.- 21 TT, 3 INT, 5 PBU in 5 games.
It has not yet been said but the fact here is that ASU is hyping DJ Smith to the scouts and media more and thus that is why LeGree probably will not win the Buck Buchanan but yet he has been a player. The only weakness in his game is that he does not possess blazing speed just a 4.55 range and the fact that folks question his toughness and ability against the run. He is one of the top cover safeties to come out of the FCS in years and is truly worth a top 3 vote, for the third straight season.
3. DT Kenrick Ellis, Hampton, Sr.- 45 TT, 9 TFL, 2 sacks, 2 QBH, 2 FR, 1 FF in 4 games.
I don’t see him finishing this high but if you watch him he should. The only reason he might not get drafted in the spring is because of off field issues as he his talent is rare and impressive. Ellis blows up plays and manhandles opponents with his brute strength and power. He has wreaked havoc all season long and is one of the top players that most folks have not seen.
4. LB Tyler Holmes, UMASS, Jr.- 51 TT, 8 TFL, 2 sacks, 3 INT, 1 PBU, 2 FF in 5 games.
If you watched Holmes against Michigan he was a stud making plays all over. He wreaks havoc in backfields and is a returning All-American proving that he should be an early front runner for this award in 2011.
5. LB Jabara Williams, Stephen F. Austin, Sr.- 55 TT, 4 TFL, 1 sack, 1 PBU, 1 FR in 5 games.
Williams is a big kid with good speed who produces at high levels. His only big problem is that he misses tackles sometimes but still manages to put up big numbers. He has been consistent this year and has the reputation that will likely earn him enough votes to finish in the top five.

MY TOP FIVE VOTE

Sherritt has been good but also is benefitting from nobody emerging with big numbers in sacks or tackles for loss. While Sherritt is not a highly rated NFL prospect because he is small he is that tough, productive, and consistent college linebacker who just produces. He entered the season as one of the leading candidates and is one of three or four who could legitimately take home the award at this point.
2. FS Mark LeGree, Appalachian State, Sr.- 21 TT, 3 INT, 5 PBU in 5 games.
It has not yet been said but the fact here is that ASU is hyping DJ Smith to the scouts and media more and thus that is why LeGree probably will not win the Buck Buchanan but yet he has been a player. The only weakness in his game is that he does not possess blazing speed just a 4.55 range and the fact that folks question his toughness and ability against the run. He is one of the top cover safeties to come out of the FCS in years and is truly worth a top 3 vote, for the third straight season.
3. DT Kenrick Ellis, Hampton, Sr.- 45 TT, 9 TFL, 2 sacks, 2 QBH, 2 FR, 1 FF in 4 games.
I don’t see him finishing this high but if you watch him he should. The only reason he might not get drafted in the spring is because of off field issues as he his talent is rare and impressive. Ellis blows up plays and manhandles opponents with his brute strength and power. He has wreaked havoc all season long and is one of the top players that most folks have not seen.

If you watched Holmes against Michigan he was a stud making plays all over. He wreaks havoc in backfields and is a returning All-American proving that he should be an early front runner for this award in 2011.
