Montana, fresh of the 38-35 thrashing of D-II Central Washington, travel to Ogden to take on the Wildcats of Weber State.

Weber played Utah tough, losing 21-37.

Major test for both teams with playoff hopes

This is THE one, along with EWU, that will determine UM's postseason plans.... :( :(

Well, of course. Those two are a given. They're both in Missoula.
;)

edit: actually, for those two, it really doesn't matter WHERE they're played, they're a given....

I got Montana winning by 3-5 points over Weber St. I don't know why, but that is just what I have been thinking.

I'm not sure about that. Even if the Griz lose both, they still figure to go 10-2 and get in the playoffs (likely with a home game). I'm assuming you're talking about making the playoffs versus not making the playoffs & not just about how UM does once they get there.

No, I'm talking about autobid versus at-large, home game versus away games....

I'm pretty sure we'll be 9-3, 10-2 at worst at the end of all this.....the question is, who (if anyone) will be ahead of us in the BSC standings? It could be Weber AND EWU....and in that case, I think the BSC is a three bid league.

Well, that is what I predicted preseason. Of course, I also predicted the Griz would lose to Cal Poly…

As for the game, it looks like a toss-up. Weber looks really good—I had them at #9 in my AGS ballot this week (Griz @ #3)—and they should stay that way if they remain healthy (their depth is suspect). Higgins is on fire & the defense looks solid compared to the rest of the conference.

I see two keys to the game for the Griz:

  • 1. The Third Quarter - Weber's been outscored in the third quarter while the Griz have yet to give up a point in that frame. Montana always makes great halftime adjustments. They'll have to here.

    2. Special Teams - Montana seems to have solved their placekicking problem: McKnight is accurate and there were no protection problems whatsoever against CWU. If the Griz dominate the forgotten phase like they did against Cal Poly, they'll win this game for sure. Weber's 0 for 2 on field goals the last two games, so that may help.

The nice thing is, there's much less talk this year of the Big Sky being the Big Fluff. Damn that crap gets old from those crusty East-coasters....

Weber has looked pretty good so far, and Higgins is a good QB, but I think they get exposed this weekend. 2 FBS teams, 2 lower level team, hard to tell where they are at.

I think Bobby fixes the cover 2 issues the Griz had against CWU, TJ gets 2 picks (1 for a TD), and the Montana O starts rolling, with a 42-21 final score.

Side note - on the Bobby Hauck Show Cole was on, and he talked about how he needs to get hit a couple times to get into the rhythm of the game - note to Phenice, call QB draws the first 3 plays and Cole will light them up the rest of the way  Bobby also asked Cole why he plays better when they ride him hard, Cole said because they make him mad and he plays better - Bobby told him get used to it, they are going to ride him the rest of the season - Coaches should start yelling at Cole when they get on the Bus ;)

Yes it does!! Actually, coming from an App fan is surprising because the Mountaineers played 2 Big Fluff teams last year and got all you wanted in both games. You know better..... ;)

I question what Cole said about getting hit to make him play better. This is the second week in a row that he has thrown a pic in the endzone. He was better this week about throwing the ball away instead of getting sacked but he still tried to use his legs to save him and took a couple of big sacks. He also needs to make the decision a little faster on whether to throw the ball away or take the sack. On one last week he was inbetween throwing it and tucking it and it looked like he fell on the ball. He is not scared one bit about tucking the ball and running that is for sure. I just hope in a few games this season that if the Griz get up by a few scores Hauck puts in Selle with the purpose of scoring and not doing the little lets run some clock and get this game over with. Selle is going to be the QB for the next two years and needs to get as much time in as possible for next year and incase Cole goes down.

I think the key to the game is this:

The Griz need to score more points than the Wildcats. :o
