Montana at Portland State

Kickoff scheduled for 5 pm PDT from Hillsboro Stadium, temporary home of Portland State. The Grizzlies come into the game fresh off of a win against Idaho State last week in Missoula. The Vikings start off great early last week against conference leader Montana State but a disastrous second quarter turned the game into a Bobcat victory. Former Oregon Duck quarterback Justin Roper returns to the state quarterbacking the Grizzly attack. Connor Kavanaugh will once again get the start for the Vikings pistol attack. The Grizzlies coach, Robin Pflugrad, was actually a player at Portland State in the late 70's and returns to coach against his alma mater. The Grizzlies currently have 2 FCS losses, both on the road against Cal Poly and Eastern Washington. The Vikings lone FCS loss came last week at Montana State, but also have lost to two Pac-10 teams, Oregon and Arizona State. Weather should be not a factor, partly sunny and temps near 60.

what do you know????!!!! Big Sky doubleheader on Comcast-Portland. The EWU/UNC game is on now. UM/PSU will be shown later on.

Added bonus when the Ducks don't play, I guess. :thumb:

You got me wound up for a second...I thought you were directing your first 4 words at me

I was gonna have to come back and say, "because our special teams hasn't been so special this year".

You should know, Will, that my hatred towards the Ducks is far worse than toward anyone on the board. Actually, I really enjoy everyone here. Occasional spats here and there, but good dialogue all around. :thumb: :D

This i think could very well be a trap game for the Griz. PSU is a much better team then they were last year. I think Montana gets the win but it wont be by any means easy:

-Montana: 38

-PSU: 28

Opening toss, and Griz Captain Andrew Selle's arm is still in a sling. That must have been one messed up rotator cuff.

Throw my prediction out the window unless they start soon.

I don't like being right in this case...

Vikings return a kickoff for a TD. 7-7 with about 5:50 left in the half.

Our kick/punt return coverage is just about as good as the Steelers were last year...its almost a given that a team is going to return a kick/punt for a TD every week. Oi.

That was a frustrating first half. Reynolds runs well, but gives up a bad fumble one play after a big gain. Two big drops on third down & another KR touchdown allowed. Roper doesn't look sharp and he had several good scrambling opportunities in which he instead decided to just backpedal and make an ineffective throw.

Fortunately, PSU looks pretty one-dimensional.

Portland State marches down the field for a quick score to take the lead 14-7 early in the 3rd.

PSU runs for a bunch of yardage, fumbles, then the Griz return it into PSU territory.

TD Griz, Reynolds on a screen pass.

Tied at 14.

Bouncing short punt hits a PSU player, and Montana keeps it. Caught a big bounce there, they have it in Viking territory.

Someone should be fired any time there's a big play and Reynolds doesn't get the ball. He's incredible.

And looking like himself for one of the first times this season. The new system has a lot to do with severely reduced stats, but he just hasn't looked healthy this year.

Roper is doing his best to remind us that he's not the regular starter in this game...the receivers have dropped a ton of passes, but the ones that aren't being dropped are being overthrown. Just an all-around sloppy game on offense. With Reynolds looking like he is he really needs to figure into the offense more when nothing else is working.

Every time I've got to watch him, I've been impressed. Maybe I need to watch Griz games more often for his sake. ;-)

PSU down 17-14, 13:00ish left in the game.

And PSU gives it away on the first play of their next drive.
