Alright game on Penguins! It's time for the Rabbits to get this train moving forward! You however have been chosen for this year's Hobo Day contender!!!!
HOBO DAY: Hobo Day, South Dakota State University’s annual homecoming celebration, dates back to 1912. Saturday’s game is the 96th Hobo Day game as no game was played in 1918 due to World War I and the 1943 game was played between two Army special training teams.
Overall, SDSU is 55-35-5 on Hobo Day. The Jackrabbits had their five-game Hobo Day winning streak snapped two years ago as SDSU dropped a 46-44, triple-overtime thriller to #4 McNeese State (La.) on Oct. 4, 2008. However, the Jackrabbits have won 11 of their last 14 Hobo Day games. These victories included the hurt put on UNI last year after which their players almost cried during the post game presser.

What Hobo Day means to the college/younger fan: We drink until 2 am on Friday. We get up at 8 or 9 am on Saturday go downtown and start drinking until the parade, if you get to Skinner's early enough you can drink from a nice warm window seat. Then you either go pass out until the game or continue drinking and go to the game. Then after we win, we go out drinking or pass out for a few hours then go out drinking again. Hopefully you don't wake up in a jail cell and there were no riots. Sure the riots of '89, threw a damper on school spirit for a week or so, but those lamp posts eventually were put back up, and the fire dept got those burning couches put out. Is it wise to wear your school colors downtown after the game? Not sure people get really drunk and the world is full of idiots.
At least that's how I sort of remember it

Now, I take my kids to the parade and teach them a little about my hometown. Meet up with old friends, then off to a little tailgating and off to an enjoyable football game.

Welcome to Hobo Week!!!!! :thumb:

How is this any different than any other weekend in Brookings? The "game" maybe FB, BB, hockey, a Dungeons & Dragons tourney, etc....

8 AM! 8 AM! WTF is that?!?!?!? You wake up at 6 or 7 AM, drink until 10 when the keg race starts, and then get so freaking AWESOME that you don't remember your name. (Thats right, we don't get drunk, we get awesome) You don't remember screaming till you can't talk, and you can't remember not being able to talk. You hit on a random hott chick in front of your gf, and then wake up wondering why she won't talk to you but you're just happy cuz JACKS WIN!!!! :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Need more stories.

And if you can't remember any, just make something up.

Well, just to make it short last year and underage Thumper ran screaming across campus with a keg over his head wearing just a kilt and body paint screaming freedom seconds after chugging a pitcure of beer. Thats the end of memories. Oh, and later I slapped some 60+ yr old guy on the ass and screamed good game in his ear on the way to the game, from what I'm told. But I'm sure I could ask around and get more stories :thumb:

During the riots, a guy, I know, got arrested for grabbing a police officer's hat and playing keep-away with it. Evidently, we all learned later that is felony my friends! I think he got 6 months(not even kidding).
Some guy tackled me for grabbing rocks out of his yard and made the side of my head bleed.
About 6 people tipped over the news vehicle( for KDLT I think).
A lot of other things I can't talk about because I don't know how long the of statutes of limitations runs.
I personally spent a night in the hokie for a brawl in the 90's.

For some reason, it was safe for the McNeese fans to wear their school colors before and after our game up there a couple of years ago. ;-)

We sort of just blended in.

Doc

P.S. We had a good time.

If it was KDLT, I thank you.

I wasn't a KDLT news fan growing up. :dunce:

KELO is where it is at...or at least where it was at when I was up there

What a great day for a great game! Hobo Day is always enjoyable, even though it rained a little during the parade, the day turned out beautiful, sunny and of course the yearly Hobo Day 'W'!
Next...the Trees. In what is a make or break game for the two clubs! Jacks finally have a chance to draw even their record! Should be fun! 1-0 every week! Go Big! Go Blue! Go Jacks! :thumb:
