ODU @ Hampton

Can any MEAC fans tell me anything about Hampton? They're kinda of a mystery team to me right now...no good wins, but no bad losses. Does that make them like a middle-of-the-road FCS team, or is the MEAC just that bad? They seemed to have played SC State tough, and their defensive numbers look good, but their offense as of late also seems awful. But I think I read that the MEAC is a good defensive league, so maybe that's just it.

Anyways, I'm not really sure what to expect from the Pirates this weekend, so any info is helpful. Thanks!

VERY run-oriented. We played them in Week 4 and they rushed for almost 350 yards against us, yet they only passed for 83 yards. Haven't been following ODU much this year, how is their run defense?

I was at the game when they played us(SCSU)..and thier offense has a lot of potential thier qb just isn't hitting his stride right now. He is a transfer fron syracuse and they also have a wideout who transfered from thier also..Thier run game is ok although they didn't generate any run or pass offense on us but we had troubl getting to thier qb because thier line is like VERY VERY big and athletic...no to thier defense...all I am going to say is that they had Kendrick Ellis a 310 lb DT..that they line up everywhere on the defensive line...the defense if very fast they use a 3-4 defense because they have some decent linebackers. as for the secondary they make plays and can sometimes with the right qb be bated into going for the pump fake because they like to go for the ball..the special teams punter can boot a kick a long ways and thier return game is not too shabby either..overall they are a decent football team with alot of talent it should be a fun contest up thier and if I were in the area I would come and check it out...OAN: they will take a couple shots down the field

Forgot about this thread. Thanks a lot for the info...it helps a lot on what to expect Saturday. FWIW, Rich Radford, our beat writer, is expecting more ODU fans than Hampton fans at Armstrong Stadium. It seems like every ODU fan who posts on the message boards is going with 3+ friends (one with 60+ on boats), and our students are having a few buses going too. And then factor everyone in who doesn't post on our boards. No disrespect to HU fans, but this might be our home away from home game this year.

Also, Hampton is refusing to have the game televised. ODU wants it, the local media wants it, but HU doesn't. :|

You will surely have more fans at the game than they will have. We played them a couple years ago for homecoming and we almost had more people than they did inside of the stadium and it takes most of our folk 6 hours to make the trip...It should be a good game if they can score........ :ohno: Offense is no running on all cylinders

It's not like they could walk though...so think of it as a shuttle.

ODU doesn't know where Iowa is...of course they need a bus to get them there. Left up to them getting their they'd end up in California.

Sailing over to Hampton would be pretty awesome tho, imagine a fleet of ODU ships on the bay heading towards Hampton. :notworthy:

I heard that all the Hampton hotels were booked so they had to go a little out of town and book the Norfolk Marriot. But it was worth it to make sure that as many fans as possible could make the trip.

From ODU's message board:
BIG-GUY wrote:We have an armada of 69 fans going by boat to the game. Looking for a large turn out.
...somebody asks question...
BIG-GUY wrote:The tour boat would be great if you could get it done.I'd be happy if bus trips were avail for away games. We have a group of about 14 boats headed to Hampton for the weekend. A 2 day tailgating event. Go BLUE!.

Hampton band has been playing the whole game, even during the plays. Old Dominion band just played while Hampton had the ball and were told by officials to stop playing. WTF??? The crowd, mostly Old Dominion, is now louder than the band.
