As you like to point out, the computers are only as good as the HUMANS who create them.

Humans would be the reason a computer poll sucks.

Outside of App being #3 not #1 and Me feeling Sac St, GSU, and SUU shouldn't be there I don't have much of a problem with it either....Is it perfect? Nope, but no poll is.

App isn't #1 in my poll either, and I'm a human!
(for the record, UD is not my #1 either)
It's not hard to imagine a scenario where this ranking looks pretty good in January.

Biggest variation between the CS poll and the GPI:

Underrated by the CS.com Poll:

Top 25 - New Hampshire Wildcats - CS.com 14th ---- GPI 8th

Next 10 (tie) - South Dakota State - CS.com 30th ---- GPI 18th
Next 10 (tie) - Sacremento State - CS.com 35th ---- GPI 23rd

Overrated by the CS.com Poll

Top 25 - South Carolina State - CS.com 20th ---- GPI 47th
Next 10 - Harvard - CS.com 31st ---- GPI 70th

Seriously who is still voting for Harvard?

Not sure if anyone cares, but I figured out the official NCAA GPI that would be used by the Committee for the Bridge AQ analysis:

The NCAA GPI uses the following 5 computer rating systems: Massey, Wolf, Laz, Ashburn and Self. The Standard GPI uses 4 of those 5. Curiously the Standard GPI does not use Wolf, the ranking which has Jacksonville and Dayton ranked the highest (14 and 19 repsectively). It doesn't change it dramatically, but it does show that the Standard GPI is not considering a rating which the NCAA feels is one of the 5 most credible.

Anyway, I did the spreadsheet and the Top 35 in the NCAA GPI looks like this:

1. Delaware
2. App State
3. SFA
4. Jacksonville St.
5. W&M
6. Villanova
7. Eastern Washington
8. Wofford
9. New Hampshire
10. Montana State
11. Chattanooga
12. Montana
13. James Madison
14. Northern Iowa
15. Wetern Illinois
16. Northern Arizona
17. SEMO
18. North Dakota State
19. Sacremento State
20. Cal Poly
21. South Dakota State
22. UMass
23. Furman
24. Sam Houston State
25. Bethune Cookman

26. Georgia Southern
27. Richmond
28. Grambling
29. Jacksonville
30. Liberty
31. Robert Morris
32. Penn
33. South Carolina St.
34. Lehigh
35. Dayton

That's what'll happen when Stony Brook (our toughest competition) is rated lower than Idaho State (the BSC's easiest).

Take a look at the bottom of the computers and you see our whole conference. They get no SoS boost anywhere, so unlike Idaho State and NoCo (not picking on the Big Sky, just an example) who get boosted up because they have UM, MSU, NAU, and EWU on their schedule, you get Presby and VMI who just sink to the bottom of the computer rankings.

As long as we're in the Big South we'll never be good in computers. But if you base it all off computers then South Alabama is on the bubble. So take it for that it's worth. There's a computer poll linked on Massey's big mess of computer rankings page that has SC State first, and Texas Southern 3rd, and it's not an HBCU poll, it's an FCS poll.

Actually, here. Here's the top 25 from that poll...
1 South Carolina St. (5 - 2) 0.898 0.347 2.587
2 Wofford (5 - 1) 1.331 0.775 1.717
3 Texas Southern (4 - 3) 0.961 0.604 1.590
4 Villanova (5 - 2) 1.327 0.844 1.573
5 Appalachian St. (7 - 0) 1.398 0.931 1.502
6 Western Ill. (5 - 3) 1.264 0.848 1.489
7 James Madison (4 - 3) 0.989 0.673 1.471
8 Stony Brook (2 - 4) 1.208 0.822 1.469
9 Stephen F. Austin (6 - 1) 1.208 0.833 1.451
10 Southern Utah (4 - 4) 1.252 0.864 1.448
11 Robert Morris (6 - 1) 1.107 0.766 1.445
12 Jacksonville (6 - 1) 1.287 0.894 1.440
13 Furman (4 - 3) 1.214 0.848 1.431
14 Elon (2 - 5) 1.282 0.906 1.415
15 Chattanooga (5 - 2) 1.207 0.855 1.412
16 Eastern Wash. (6 - 2) 1.246 0.898 1.387
17 Delaware (7 - 1) 1.203 0.873 1.378
18 Alcorn St. (2 - 4) 1.112 0.815 1.364
19 Bethune-Cookman (6 - 0) 1.338 1.006 1.330
20 Jacksonville St. (8 - 0) 1.121 0.843 1.330
21 UNI (4 - 3) 1.353 1.019 1.328
22 Ga. Southern (4 - 3) 1.146 0.872 1.314
23 Portland St. (2 - 5) 1.372 1.053 1.302
24 Tenn.-Martin (3 - 4) 1.103 0.851 1.296
25 Grambling (6 - 1) 1.404 1.084 1.295
Computers are great. :thumb: I'm glad that one doesn't go into the GPI, otherwise we'd need to start talking about how Jacksonville would do at Texas Southern in the 2nd round.

I believe we have one of the highest ranked schedule in the FCS, so blame the Blue Hens for doing well and making us look good. :thumb:
