Simple question, do you think Cal Poly will be in the playoffs or not? Why, or why not?
Currently 7-3 (2-1 GW)

Montana W 35-33
@ Texas State L 21-12
@ McNeese State W 40-14
@ Fresno State L 38-17
@ Old Dominion W 50-37
@ Southern Utah L 20-7
North Dakota W 22-21
St. Francis (PA) W 41-33
@South Dakota W 38-24
UC Davis TBD

IMO it really depends on the Brawl of the Wild, and not in the way you think. If Montana wins, CP's win over the Griz will look better, BUT the Big Sky will definitely get UM, MSU and EWU in and that could spell trouble for the Mustangs. If MSU wins, I think an 8-3 (7-3) CP gets in OVER a 7-4 Montana.

I agree that it comes down to the Brawl. If UM loses they only have 6 D1 wins and I don't think the committee puts them in, $$$ or not, and that would leave the door open for Poly. Montana wins the Brawl and IMO, 3 teams from the Big Sky get in and leaves Poly out.

I had completely forgotten that. It's now a lock that if the Griz lose (and CP beats UCD) that the Mustangs are in.

...and that could be pre-mature, they have to beat North Dakota this weekend to get to
6 D1 wins

This is what appears to be the current scenarios that could possibly play out:
-If Montana wins out they would be 7-3 against D1 opponents when head to head with the Mustangs, Cal Poly (if they beat UC-Davis) would also be 7-3 and i see Cal Poly getting the nod over the Griz since they would have the same record and the Mustangs beat the Griz in the head to head matchup.
-If Cal Poly wins and Montana loses to lets say MSU the Griz would not be considered since they only could get 6 DI wins and therefore could not qualify as you need 7.
The only way that seems plausible for the Griz to get in would be if the Mustangs lose to UC-Davis this upcoming week as they would only have 6 D1 wins, but if both the Griz and the Stangs lose and both having 6 D1 wins they would both miss the playoffs.

All really nice logic, but an 8-3 Montana team isn't going to be home for the holidays. Unless it's a home GAME.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. 8-3 Montana trumps 8-3 Cal Poly even though CP beat them... fair or not, that's just the way it is.

Agreed that is the probable scenario, however i still will keep my prediction because if that does happen, the Mustangs deserve to get it more...hate being an at large bid only conference member till 2012

Just my opinion according to the head to head matchup

If Montana wins it will be their only big win. Name another good win for the Griz. Cal Poly has a win over Montana, a 40-14 win on the road over the Southlands 1rst place team McNeese State and good win on the road against ODU. If Montana gets in with the same record as Cal Poly and Cal Poly does not it goes to show the playoffs are more concerned about money and not putting the best teams in.

The 6 wins is a guideline, not a hard and fast rule. The Griz will get in with a win in either of their last 2 games. The NCAA can (and will) overlook guidelines when $$$$ is considered. And UM brings a LOT of money to the table.
Not saying it is necessarily fair or deserving (and I am a Griz fan), but I would bet that is the way it would work out.

Sorry mate, you need 7 D1 wins minimum to get into the playoffs...

I agree with what has been said about the Rivalry game this weekend. for the Bobcats its pretty much the Big Sky Championship game. The Grizzlies have won the last 4 meetings by an average of 18.3 points. If UM loses to UND this basically becomes a playoff game for them. If Montana beats UND but loses to MSU I think they still get in, and CP may be the 21st team

No you don't. Without 7 D1 wins you are in jeopardy of being left out and the committee gives preference to 7 D1 win teams but it is not a minimum...you could still get in. Highly unlikely, but you could. If the Griz win out, then they would have solid wins, MSU being the last.

If the Griz get in with only 6 D-I wins everyone will know for a fact that the NCAA is about money and doesn't give two shits about anything/anyone else.

Sorry Slo, I’m not drinking the ODU kool-aid. I’m not trying to knock ODU’s program, but they haven’t played anyone (and given it’s their 2nd year back in existence, there is nothing wrong with their scheduling philosophy). Just because CP had to travel across the entire lower 48 doesn’t make the win over ODU a “quality” win. ODU’s “quality” wins are against a 5-4 Hampton team and a 6-3 GA State team.
With that said, I think CP will get in over UM IF UM loses to MSU and CP wins out. If they both finish with 7 D-1 wins, UM will get in over CP, and depending on how things shake out, CP could still get in as well.
As a side note Slo, I hope CP punishes and completely destroys the phaggies this week. There will be nothing better than to have them heading into the Causeway with demoralized players. I’ll place my vote after this week’s games.

Is there any chance they get in and play at Montana in the first round?
Would this be a good thing?
I'd watch.

We haven't played anyone? We played the current #1 team in the country...and lead for 56 minutes...and lost by four.
