VMI - Old Dominion

Yeah I know. Nobody cares but it is an opportunity to become playoff eligible for the second time in 2 tries. It may be a while before we become playoff eligible again so we'll enjoy it.
Big weekend on campus with our men's basketball season tipping off on Friday night against the visiting Georgetown Hoyas. They will be looking for a little revenge after we beat them for the second time in a row at their place last year.
Friday night basketball at 7PM followed by a Saturday afternoon football game at 3:30. Does a 24 hour period get any better......with clothes on?

CAAFlagship, have you had the chance to read VMI's message board? It's bad...really really bad. For example (and these are the lighter ones):
This is the dirtiest team we'll play all season. They'll embarrass us if they can. They think they should be ranked.
No question about it... ODU is a dirty ballclub. Direct reflection of the coaching (or lack therof).
I wonder if Wilder posts photos of opponent's players, and draws a bulls-eye on them. (ask Laycock).
Again I'll say it - what have we done to shut them up and shut them down? The best way to combat dirty play and cheap shot artists is to send a message early and often by outplaying them and being tougher than they are.
What the hell did we ever do to VMI? Yeah we beat 'em, but I could've sworn our fans and team gave 'em a lot of respect last year. And man, Coach Wilder is one of the nicest people you could meet. VMI's hatred is kinda weird. Do they do this with all the Big South teams?
I did like this quote though:
I used to play softball with Rich Radford when I lived in Norfolk. He is a prima donna.

I think y'all developed a bit of a reputation after the William and Mary game.

So they're gonna base our whole reputation on one highly emotional night where W&M came into our house having absolutely little respect for us? Coach Wilder's done an excellent job with cleaning up the personal fouls after that game. But I guess the 18 other games we've played don't count. Meh...whatever floats their boat though.
However, I do like that they're coach said that they want to "upset" us. Kinda nice that after less than two years, some teams would consider us an upset. Hopefully one day it'll be more teams who think this. Until then...it's been pretty fun watchin' this program grow.

It doesn't take but one game to earn a reputation. I'll give you an example:
One year Southern was playing Jackson State at home and the scoreboard went out. The Jags won the game and of course JSU felt like we cheated, so from that point on if anything happened they blamed us (including cutting the brakelines on a team bus

) pretty soon that rep for cheating spread thru the league and 18 years later we still haven't shaken it
I say relish the attention because it's apparent ODU is firmly planted in VMI's head. Then laugh as your team goes out and beats the very cleanly.

Wow. I find it hard to believe that they are that bent out of shape. As a military school, if they think we are "dirty", just wait until they meet our "friends" in the Middle East. Now that is a tough conference. And they have the worst facilities.

I've got a lot of respect for their players 'cause most of 'em will probably be fightin' for our country after college, but I hope we show 'em no mercy on Saturday. We need to start establishing the program as THE team in Virginia for FCS football, and in my eyes, the Keydets are an in-state rival and have to be treated as such.
BTW, here's this weeks "Breakfast with Bobby." Notice all the praise he gave VMI at the end of the video. But if VMI fans wanna think he's dirty, that's their prerogative:

Not to beat a dead horse, but the W&M game wasn't even that bad. 2 of the 4 personal fouls called in the game were bad calls (even admitted as such by W&M fans).
Laycock was out of line for what he said and the fact that VMI is calling us dirty just goes to show you how scared they are of losing and they are already making excuses before the game has even been played.
With that said, I'd very much like for us to go the entire game without any personal fouls being called just to shut them up.

the funniest thing about this to me, after reading all those quotes from the VMI boards, is that historically, W&M has sustained more injuries playing VMI than any other team (not fact, just seems that way), due to late hits, cheap shots (to the legs), etc...
Ironical

After a slow start, Old Dominion rolls to playoff eligibility for the 2nd year in 2 tries. We won't make the playoffs but being eligible is at least something to hang our hat on.

Congrats to ODU for the win, taking advantage of the five VMI turnovers

, and ODU does have fine skill players on both sides, very good LB's.........stat-wise, this was VMI's finest offensive effort (minus the turnovers) in their 7 losses, by far the most points (first time VMI broke 10 in a loss in 2010) in a losing effort.
