Liberty is not a playoff caliber team

Post by ToTheLeft »

Sorry for arguing all season how good LU is. This team isn't a national contender at all. We're not even the 2nd best in the Big South.

I really hope changes are made, and made soon. It's the same terrible defense that haunts us year after year after year.

well, we all know coastal isn't a second half team. Liberty might come back and whoop them.

That would involve LU making adjustments. That will be tough to do.

IMO, Liberty is a good program - not a great program, yet. The Flames are not a national championship contender this year and if they lose today their playoff hopes are probably doomed. But if Liberty continues to build on their recent success they will be one of the better programs in FCS in the future.

The false hope from big wins over bad teams and the hype we as a fan base build ourselves up to makes these losses seem so much worse. We feel like we're really as good as the polls and everything say, and the blowouts only add to that.

Needless to say, FlameFans is gonna get heated tonight. Pun not intended, just couldn't think of a better word.

What happens if...

1. Coastal beats Liberty
2. Coastal wins next week against CSU
3. Liberty beats Stony next week

That would be a three way tie for 1st in the big south (i think). CCU would have the head to head over Liberty, Stony over CCU, and Liberty over Stony.

Who would get the auto?

Team with the fewest points allowed in conference. Which would not be LU after today. Depends on how many we score on Stony, because it could be you if you don't give up a ton to CSU.

No, we just play the same stupid defense. CDB and staff figured it out and MacDowall is good enough to make the easy throws we give him.

and our offense is stupid and predictable. And we can't tackle.

Fire Danny Rocco.
Because he's such a BAD coach! I'm thankful that we have Danny Rocco as our head coach. Liberty's program would not be where it is today without him. I'm also thankful that Jerry Falwell had the vision to offer Rocco this position when he as assistant up at UVa. Who knows when Rocco will take the call from an FBS program, but he is a great leader. It's natural to put losses squarely on the head coach, but players have to take some responsibility for what happened out there today.

CCU makes the playoffs if we beat CSU
Lib beats SBU
and lib hangs at least 39 points on SBU and we blank csu (or if we dont blank them keep the margin of points against us and points against sbu at 39)

so most likley a team from new york will rep the big south this year in the playoffs :?

it becomes obvious in these situations who really stands beside their team. I will ALWAYS be an LU fan and have been for 25+ years. I have come through ups, downs, and everything in between. Danny Rocco has brought LU to the highest highs and I will stay staning behind him. Without him, we are nowhere near the progrees we've made. As was said earlier we are a good program not a great one. That will take time and patience. T

Normally, I'm a fan of TTL, but I gotta side with Knucklehead here. It's still a good season and the committee deliberations will be a crapshoot. Anything could happen, and if Liberty makes it, they have every chance of making some noise, particularly if they get a good draw.

How on earth am I not a fan because I think the coach is doing a poor job.

And it's not our highest highs. 1989 we beat 2 ranked teams in the same season. 1997 we were 9-2, beating App St. on the final week of the season. There are so many solid seasons that trump the couple of decent wins Rocco has had.

So keep touting yourself as SuperFan and looking down on anyone who questions your buddy DR. If you have anyone to thank, it's Barber, because he's put the program in a position to succeed. Get over your undying hatred of Karcher and see that we're stagnant right now, and things need to change if we're going to get further than we are now.

Not only am I still a fan of the team, I'm picking us to win our final game. I still have a degree that says Liberty University on it, I just don't have a degree that says "Thou shalt support Danny Rocco feverishly, and with an undying passion."

And we're not getting in as an at-large. But there is hope for an auto-bid still. If we win by a ton of points against SBU, we're in (pretty much).

I have not spoken the name Karcher in this thread. I am A huge fan of Jeff Barber. He is a great program builder. I did not say YOU were not a fan. You are, just really quick to jump off the band wagon. I agree that the earlier times you speak of were awesome, I lived it. This is a much more sustained period of success. Anyway do what you want but i choose to stand with Rocco and the boys. He will beat SBU and take our chances at the playoffs. If it doesn't work then it's next year like 90% of the teams in FCS.

You have spoken Karcher before (under this and other usernames), and it's the obvious reason anyone from LU who has been around for a few years loves Rocco, because he's winning, and that's something Karcher stopped doing.

And I'm NOT JUMPING OFF A BANDWAGON. I support Liberty University Athletics. That is bigger than any one person. If I don't think someone is doing their best to help LU Athletics, I have every right to question whether or not they should still be here. I am not a Danny Rocco fan, I am a Liberty fan. So don't make it seem like I am bailing on the team, when I am merely calling into question whether or not one piece of the giant puzzle is the right piece.
