Co-Champions of the PFL. Both finish at 10-1, 9-1 FCS, 8-0 PFL. One or both should be invited to the playoffs.

No, neither should. Neither is a playoff caliber team. RMU lost a lot of cred today by LU losing and RMU losing, so Dayton lost its leg to stand on, and JU has nothing to stand on, since an ODU win isn't meaningful at all.

Congrats on winning (but not playing each other, well set up league you've got there), but no playoffs.

Neither has any business getting an at-large bid based on today's games. But I have no problem giving the Pioneer an autobid and hope their application is accepted as soon as possible.

Suffice it to say I disagree!

Agreed. Neither team are close to top 35 caliber, but I would love for them to get an auto-bid. An At-large would be a travesty to the FCS teams that play real competition week in and week out.

You took what, double OT to beat Marist and a hail mary to beat Drake? Please.

Jacksonville just beat Campbell by 7 at home. These aren't playoff teams.

TTL, what's with cheap shots?

:ohno:

The PFL has 10 teams. People complain about the PFL's overall OOC scheduling, but it would be worse if they each had to play 9 conference games each year.

The CAA has the same problem. Do you want to take a cheap shot at them, as well?

The Big South only has 7 teams. Apparently, programs are (not) beating down the doors to get into the Big South!

Neither are playoff teams. End of story. Jacksonville's resume consists of beating ODU and getting stomped by App State.

I firmly believe that the Pioneer Football League, as a full-fledged FCS conference that has requested an AQ, should get an AQ.

I'm a fan of the PFL, but I have to say that I don't believe that either Dayton's or Jacksonville's resume is sufficient for an at-large bid this season.

As a fan of the NEC, I know that Robert Morris would struggle to get an at-large bid this year (if the NEC didn't have the AQ) because of their two "bad" losses (in the eyes of the committee) to Bryant and Dayton. However, I believe that RMU will move on to the second round in the playoffs and I would caution their second-round opponents to not take the Colonials lightly.

So, let me get this straight.... At least two folks here think that RMU can make it to the second round of the playoffs AND have a good shot at winning the second round game.... The Robert Morris that LOST to Dayton.... A team that does not have the resume to receive an at large bid.... It is thinking like this that should justify an at large for the PFL....

I'm pissed off that my team and its stubborn coaching staff crapped the bed again.

This same Dayton team that lost to 6-4 Duquesne; and struggled to beat a 3-7 Marist in double OT; and had to rely on a Hail Mary in the final seconds to beat 6-4 (vs. Div I) Drake by 6; and slipped by 4-6 Morehead State by 6; and squeaked by 5-6 San Diego by 1. While I believe that every win is a "good win", I know that the rest of the FCS doesn't believe that.

DF, you know that I am a big fan of the PFL, but Dayton's resume simply does not equate to an at-large bid in my opinion. Just like Butler's resume in 2009 did not equate to an at-large bid. Just like Central Connecticut State's resume in 2009 did not equate to an at-large bid.

I've thought all along that Jacksonville has a better shot than Dayton, but not by much. Losing to Appalachian State is not a "bad loss". However, losing to Duquesne is.

EDIT:
Appalachian State 45, Jacksonville 14
Appalachian State 43, Current #4 Wofford 13

Just sayin'

In that case, I might suggest that you direct your anger at the appropriate target(s)! ;)

I already shot some people on a video game and punched my bed a few times. Neither really helped.

If I had eligibility left and was good enough I'd love to turn that anger into a lead block for our running backs against Stony Brook.

Rob Ash (former Coach of Drake) wanted to come to MSU because it is an AQ conference. If San Diego who had Josh Johnson didn't qualify that one year then Dayton doesn't deserve to go.

That makes NO sense. I thought we had the perfect system that selected the best 16 teams based on on-the-field performance? :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

Like the NCAA B-ball tourney, every conference should get autobid. Sorry Dayton, Duquesne loss keeps you out.

Quit whining and play someone. Jacksonville had the balls to schedule App State. Until Dayton shows some guts to play quality conference opponent (CAA, MVC, Big Sky, SoCon, etc) you will stay at home where you belong.

JD: You're using the same argument the B(C)$ elitists use on Boise, and it's just as bogus here. The underlying assumption behind your argument is that Dayton is being a bunch of pansies. While that COULD be the case, it's also just as possible that CAA and like schools near Dayton are ducking them. Dayton shouldn't be held responsible for the cowardly reaction of other schools to the Flyers' request for a game.

They lost to Duquense, SH. A middle of the pack NEC school. They have done nothing to show they're one of the 10 best non-AQ teams in the country. Same with Jacksonville.

It's entirely possible that big conference schools won't play Dayton, especially if Dayton requests a home and home. But MSU played Drake and JMU played Morehead, so other PFL teams are playing big conference schools. Dayton and JU need to figure out how to do that themselves in order to get respect and a playoff berth. That, or let the PL get an AQ.
