Think the chance of Mickey going to N Tex is very remote, but just thought I'd throw this out there since he is the most beloved coach in I-AA. ;)

With his resume, he can do better than UNT.

Plus, you'd think that with the youth of the team and the new stadium going up, he'd be pretty locked in.

He does this every couple of years and gets a raise or extension out of it.

Didn't he do this last year? If I'm a JMU fan, i'm hoping JMU Admin calls his bluff.

As a Richmond fan, I hope they extend him.

The last time I remember anything serious was when he visited South Alabama a couple of years ago. Last year there was some talk about the Marshall job, but I don't think he was ever a serious candidate.

I know his record isn't great against Richmond, but why would a Richmond fan want JMU to show some stability when they've got a rotating door of HCs recently?

His offense is un-inventive, he is prone to making excuses for his problems and his recruiting has been mediocre.

Richmond may have had a revolving door recently, but I'd a coaching change every 3-4 years with the results we've had.

London wouldn't have done any better than 6-5 with this year's roster and injuries and Scott is a superior recruiter to London. :twocents:

FWIW, Mike Barber, the DNR beat writer for JMU, tweeted that Matthews denied that he's been approached by or approached any other schools himself. I would assume this was during his normal Monday press conference, but I haven't watched it.

Mickey would be a perfect candidate for a low level BCS school. When can we expect JMU to accept the Sun Belt offer that's on the table?

I'm not going to try to argue your 1st 2 points, but his recruiting has been very good. That is one thing you'll never hear any of the JMU fanbase criticize him over.

Every year is signing a # of guys who have non BCS I-A offers, and lately 1-2 three star a year who have a couple of BCS offers.

Yeah because the market is ripe for a coach with a two-year string of 6-5 records.

So you attribute the fact that JMU was playing true freshman on the offensive line and lacking playmakers and having no depth on the defensive line entirely to injuries?

What verbal commitments has he gained for 2011 to date?

I seriously doubt this. UNT already has the best offensive mind in the game today as HC. They have no need to do anything other than removing the interim tag.

Mostly.

On the DL 5 of the top 9 missed from a couple of games to most of the season due to inury.

On the OL Had 2 seniors strating on the right side in Aug. One was lost due to an academic issue, and one to a broken ankle. Hence the 2 redshirt freshman.

Dug up an old post from Aug over on the CAA zone which JMU's string of bad luck at OL was being talked about from other than football related injuries::
-07' offseaon lost 6'4", 345 lb rising rJr (medical, was shot) the previous year. He likely would have been a starter.
-08' offseason lost 6'1", 315 rising rJr 2 year returning starter at OG who likely would have been a 4 year starter. I thought he had to move back to the Tidewater area to take care of his child...
-09' offseason lost 6'3", 325 lb rising rJr returning OG starter to academics.
-this past offseason lost rising rSr who would have been starting right OT due to an academic issue
-this past off season lost a rising rSr OL who graduated and elected not to return for a 5th yr.

By Sept were down to 9 healthy OL on the roster, 2 of them true freshmen. So part of the #s problem for JMU's OL has been a string of offseason losses for one reason or another over the last 3 years. And part of it has been underrecruiting in terms of #s.

The good news for JMU is 8 of those 9 return, and 4 of the 5 starters, of course IF there are no offseason losses. Next yr the center will be a rSr, 3 yr starter (he was named 2nd team All CAA). The other 3 will be 2nd yr starters, and all should be much improved, esp the 2 curent rFrs. That doesn't include the rSr 08' starter who broke his ankle and missed the whole season. I haven't heard whether JMU has applied for a med redshirt and whether he would be willing to come back for a 6th season. Regardless, I expect JMU's OL will be much improved next season, and hope will be signing at least 4 OL in the offseason, including 1-2 transfers.

Oh, as far as commits, all I've heard about in the last month or 2 are a couple of 2 star kids. I imagine with high school seasons over and JMU out of the playoffs JMU folks will be talking more about signees until signing day in Feb.

I dont know why JMU would consider the Sun Belt. They'd go from being a very competitive team in the CAA whose kids in Virginia get to tell their families they are on TV at least 3-4 times a year, to being the new guy in a very mediocre non-BCS conference in Division 1.

Yea, I don't even know if the money would be that different and it would definitely be more expenses in travel alone. Neither the Sun Belt, MAC or C-USA makes a lot of sense for any CAA team
