Let's get it started....battle between two of three past National Champions. Should be a great one in Boone.

I would think Appy would be the main event whenever they play. They are the FCS media darlings, and rightfully so. Throw in the defending champs and Sczczczczczczcczczczccccczzzzzzur and it's a no-brainer.danefan wrote:So this has to be the ESPN game Friday night right?
I think its good for FCS football actually. It'll be the only show in town on Friday night. Before the crappy bowls start and after all the league championships this weekend. Here's hoping App puts a huge crowd in the stadium like usual and ESPN doesn't talk about the Heisman or Cam Newton they whole time.93henfan wrote:I would think Appy would be the main event whenever they play. attendance has absolutely nothing to do with a program's national profile.. People from everywhere know Villanova because of basketball.93henfan wrote:Fact wrote:Villanova-appy is the most marketable game they can imagine.. the two most recognizable names in FCS football.
Agree on the App part. Nova gets 3,000 at home playoff games.
Don't attempt to flatter yourself. No one gives a rat's ass about Villanova football. People hear "App State" and think of that school that knocked off Michigan a few years back. People hear Villanova and think "they play football?" Again, less than 3,000 for a home playoff quarterfinal at Villanova last year and barely 4,000 for the semi. That's just sad. There's no way to spin that kind of apathy. You guys disrespect your own team. Keep on clinging to the coke-laden '85 hoops squad.Fact wrote:attendance has absolutely nothing to do with a program's national profile.. Fuck off.GannonFan wrote:they'd be heavy favorites against either EWU or NDSU. I'm not even sure why EWU and NDSU are going to bother playing (btw, I'm absolutely serious, no sarcasm at all - really).
Beat NDSU and Appy and all is forgiven.EWURanger wrote:Fuck off.GannonFan wrote:they'd be heavy favorites against either EWU or NDSU. I'm not even sure why EWU and NDSU are going to bother playing (btw, I'm absolutely serious, no sarcasm at all - really).

Aside from you thinking we are only a football program because of one game against Michigan, Appalachian can play ball and win. App has 6 consecutive southern conference titles and still counting, 3 national championships in a row (that hasn't happened since Army did it in the 40's), 2 Walter Payton awards, highest average attendance in the FCS, and numerous playoff appearances, all of which has been accomplished in less than a decade. Even if App doesn't make it to the big title game this season it would be foolish for any opponent to undermined App's talent. I haven't done my research but I would like to see what Villanova football has achieved aside from being defending champs in recent years. (Seriously, I'm not sure and wouldn't mind knowing) For everyone else reading this I'm not trying to be obnoxious and just brag about the university I'm attending but I'm sure none of us like it when it's implied that our teams don't deserve what they have clearly earned or are called out as being less than what they honestly are. Villanova is a excellent FCS football team and personally I can't wait to watch this game. Lets just be excited about this match up and try not to undermine each others programs. The teams remaining are in the playoffs for a reason.Fact wrote:sigh.. i hate resorting to bullet points to satisfy you.93henfan wrote:

-Villanova's football program has been in the national news lately because they're seriously considering a move up to the Big East.
-Villanova is the only school with BCS ties competing.
-Matt Szczur
-Coke-laden? one player was allegedly high on cocaine in the national semifinal. Gary McLain's teammates, the coaches, VU administration, and vu students all think that he was completely full of **** and told his "story" because he was offered decent money by sports illustrated (which was desperate to capitalize on the interest in cocaine after Len Bias died.)
-Clinging on to the 1985 squad is quite an interesting charge when you consider that Villanova made the final four in 09, bring in high ranked recruiting classes on a consistent basis, the program commands the media in one of the country's largest markets, have been to the NCAA tournament six years in a row, and have one of the most high profile (as well as best dressed) coaches in America.. didn't you see him in the ESPN 3D ad?
-The football attendance is a moot issue to someone from denver who knows Villanova because they're a sexy pick to win the NCAA tournament every year (even Barry O had them in the final four last year.) The office pool fan means something.
-Yes, appy state did beat michigan (three years ago) and that's why they are half of the reason why this is a sexy matchup.
-Do yourself a favor.. get the sand out of your vag and just accept the fact that Villanova has beaten the chickens five years in a row.. Harboring resentment for your daddy is not a good thing as it leads to issues 15 years down the road.
