A young team that made a ton of young team mistakes today...
They could be scary good next year when the TO is clicking on all cylinders. They certainly have the athletes in place...
Congrats on a great season. You guys will be a force to be reckoned with next year.

They are a scary team now and many of their players were recruited fro s spred option offense...Appy is in trouble next year.

The TO is quite difficult to defend, especially for a staff that rarely sees it. Fortunately, App's coaches see it several times a year and have seen it for years prior, too. GSU will be very good, provided they can keep everyone eligible and can get the right personnel in the right places (which they are apparently doing). Don't make the mistake of believing that no one will beat them, though. They ran the TO for years and didn't win the championship every season. ASU, and the rest of the SoCon will have trouble with them, but they will lose games. It's enjoyable in a way to see them rise back to relevancy, but it also sucks, because they are a team that I dislike.
If Furman can right the ship, we'll see a return of the "Big 3" to the SoCon, the way it is meant to be. I'm tired of this elon and wofford bullshit.

Before you crown them champs for 2011/2012, you ought to teach them how to utilize that 'new' offensive gadget they call the
forward pass. Their execution of the pass was horrible to say the least. I guess that's a by-product of the 'triple option'.
GSU has an excellent defense and I'm sure will be competing again next year for a NC, but IMO, their offense needs more balance to actually succeed.

You're right, there will be a big three or perhaps a big four in the SoCon but it won't include Furman for awhile and it will include Chatty (as long as they keep their coach) and GSU.
GSU plays @Elon, @ Samford, @Appy, @Woffie, and @ Alabama (why is this the last game of the season Baker? You asshole!!!). You're looking at one certain loss (Bama) and at least two more possible losses so it is far from a given that GSU gets a seed next year even though on paper they should be better.

Wow...you guys must have $$ problems. I can't imagine your AD would willingly schedule Alabama to end the year otherwise.

Let the record reflect that this is the same AD that failed to submit a bid to host the QF game against Wofford, amongst his litany of other fuckups through the years, so really it is just more of the same for Sam Baker.

Wofford is here to stay sir. Our domination of the fighting tinkie winkies when we are healthy in the last 4 years is proof enough. I expect more of a Big 3 right now with Wofford, App, and GSU at the top. Chatty, Furman, and maybe Elon will compete for playoff spots year in and year out

Did the Eagles' impressive stretch run have the unintended effect of saving Baker's job?

After going to the Pacific Northwest THIS season, the national title is going to Superior California NEXT season.

No. Monken is PJ part 2. When we get the system in, next year, it is going to be very hard to beat us. Appy loses basically everyone. GSU brings everyone back. GSU will be the preseason pick to win the Socon. With Monken's recruiting abilities after this season, the sky's the limit.

as long as Mike Ayers is in charge. Our domination of the fighting tinkie winkies when we are healthy in the last 4 years is proof enough. I expect more of a Big 3 right now with Wofford, App, and GSU at the top. Chatty, Furman, and maybe Elon will compete for playoff spots year in and year out

GSU will likely be the pick in the SoCon next season, and with good reason. But don't mistake this ASU team as those of 10 years ago. ASU recruits much stronger talent these days than they did back then and is more able to reload than they were in years past.
Yes, App does lose a lot of important talent, but has a lot of talent waiting to play. Just as GSU was young and successful this season, ASU has the ability to be young and successful next.

I didn't know Cal Davis was supposed to be that good next year. Or were you referring to Cal Poly?

BB there is no need to speculate how well Wofford will do without Ayers as it will be a while before he retires. Even so, when Ayers finally hangs up the head gear his successor will probably be Wade Lang or Nate Woody. who have been the offensive and defensive coordinators or on the coaching staff for over 20 years. I would think there would be continuity. It's hard to say as Ayers has been our only head-man while in D1

The SoCon top to middle is going to be really good, and probably very competitive next year. GSU, ASU, WC will all be very good. Chatty should be a pretty good team. Furman has some talent coming back. Elon has talent coming back, but that was what everyone said about this year. I think these 6 teams all have a decent shot at a playoff spot, but the SoCon title will most likely go to GSU, ASU, of Wofford. I'm sorry to WCU, El Cid, and Samford. I just don't see next year going too well for them with the other teams as strong as they look to be.

Unless they can find a way to pass, too many teams can defend the triple option. All it takes is running into one defense that can do it and it's over.

GSU will have a stellar 2011, lose their coach to a god-awful Sun Belt team, then spend the next 5 years going 6-5.

If Wofford's passing game is as good as it was the last 3 games of the season (that includes playoffs) and doesn't turn the ball over, coupled with an improved defense (that was 8th in the nation) consisting of 9/11 of the starters from this year they will be a hard team to beat.

That is largely a true statement. If you go back and look GSU's best offenses averaged over 100 yards passing/game. Also, the best GSU offenses had a homerun hitters on the outside and in the slots. This group really didn't have that. The great GSU teams of the past would catch the safety sneaking up into run support and then play action for the big play over his head, particularly on first down.
With that being said though, Shaw had been effective throwing until yesterday. In fact, I thought it was easily Shaw's worst game in his college career which includes his time at Tech. Whether he just had a bad day or if UD threw him off or both is open to conjecture but he just wasn't sharp yeaterday in any phase of the game.

Isn't that true of any offense?

Shaw is the best passer of all the starting option QBs in the conference. Brian Kass, Mitch Allen's backup, may be a little better, if not, he's as good as Shaw.

We redshirted some very good weapons that should be ready next year. I was hearing that Fisher and Ford were wearing out the starters on the scout team. And in a full year for Monken to recruit, we should be absolutely loaded next year.
