When did the term "Appy" get so much run? It is offensive to some, as Mikey is to Mike.
Why not just stop with "App" or say ASU?

I really don't get how it is offensive but if you say it is I'll take your word for it. I usually just say Appalachian State- it is a bit of a pain to write/type out. If you're from the West, ASU means Arizona State...App St then? Fine.

I've never understood why people called it "Appy?" Is "App" not cool enough for you? I've called it either App or App St my entire life.

Although I left Georgia a half dozen years ago to return to Montana, I still think of Ape State as--Ape State
Probably because all my friends were either Furman or Georgia Southern graduates and one of my kids was in Statesboro for five years
Damn, don't be so sensitive and FTG

Christ, ya'll won two in a row and you're in here whining and sniveling like...west carolina
Conduct yourselves with the same class, dignity and bearing the Georgia Southern fans displayed through their six national championships. And FTG while we're at it.

the term "Appy" has never bothered me at all, fwiw, and I've never considered it 'offensive'. I know I'm in the minority on that though.

Who gives a crap, I don't. It means people are mentioning us, I don't give a rat's what they call us

There are things to worry about, being called Appy is not one of them. I really don't know anyone who went to ASU who refers to it as Appy but I don't think most people who use that moniker are using it derisively.
I have read where someone suggested the Appy label originated with Marshall folks as a way belittling us. When I was in school in the 60's and 70's, I can recall students at ASU referring to it as Happy Appy. So, it certainly was used before the Marshall folks employed it.
In this case, I think the ole "sticks and stones..." approach is the way to proceed.

I refer to them as Appy all the time just because it is easiar to write. No smack or insult is intended. I will gladly call you App if you want, it is even easiar.

As someone from North Carolina, I'm more "offended" (I use that lightly) when someone calls them "Appalayshun" St than when they say Appy.
