Orenzo Davis, who ran for over 1100 yards for Montana State in 2010, was "declared ineligible" (not suspended, technically) by the NCAA. MSU is appealing. No details regarding the reasons behind the declaration are apparently available…

In other Bobcat news, coach Rob Ash was named the president of the AFCA for 2011.

What is this normally related to?

Kid had a hell of a season. Too bad this trouble is in the mix now.

Do they mean ineligible in the future or was he ineligible this past year? Would MSU then have to vacate the Big Sky championship?

He would be ineligible this year.

I'm still confuse CA. Do you mean he was ineligible for this past season or "would be" ineligible for the coming season?

I should have read the article but I'm trying to catch up on threads around here.

If the appeal does not succeed, Orenzo will be ineligible for the 2011 season.

Got it. That would have sucked balls to have to let a BSC go away like that. Do you think it was a grades issue? Ash has been pretty good about that so it seems like that may not the reason.

He can't baby sit em' full time though so if it is that the kids got some real classwork ahead of him.

It's either a grades issue from the final grades in December or it's a transfer credits issue. If it's the latter, it makes me wonder why the clearinghouse even allowed him to sign. Which is what I would assume the appeal would be about.

How about I really confuse everybody.

From Will Holden on the Blue & Gold blog
However, MSU officials told me that doesn’t necessarily mean Davis is being punished for academic issues, which the phrase “ineligible” might seem to suggest. On the other hand, those same officials said it also doesn’t necessarily mean Davis is being punished for other reasons (i.e. violating an NCAA rule not related to academics).

This is only going to be confusing until there's more info.

good news, Davis is reinstated
BOZEMAN , Mont. – The NCAA reinstated Montana State running back Orenzo Davis’ eligibility was reinstated by the NCAA during an appeal, the school learned late Thursday.

Davis, who rushed for 1,126 yards and earned All-Big Sky Conference Second Team honors as a junior in 2010, was declared ineligible by the NCAA in December for a violation of NCAA eligibility rules.

By having his appeal granted, Davis, a senior next fall, is eligible immediately.

Due to privacy laws, MSU is unable to comment further on details of the case. -msu-

Great news. Combine him with Tray and that makes an outstanding backfield.

this is awesome news!! bad news for the rest of the BSC. davis is a homerun hitter, robinson is a bruiser, and palmer(ANOTHER bruiser with speed), the 3rd stringer, could start for a lot of FCS schools. this easily makes MSU's backfield one of the best at the FCS level. it's going to be interesting to see how marshall incorporates all these guys. is it september yet?

Good news for MSU.

Looks like there's going to be lots of talented backs in the Big Sky next year. I'm excited to watch our backfield next year. We obviously lose TJ, but return Mario Brown (played as a true freshman this year) and Darielle Beumonte (bruiser and special teams beast), along with Demitrious Bronson the UW transfer. Also have another really promising back in Chase King, who was injured this year and did not play. :thumb:

Bronson goes 225-230 and is a real down-field runner. We haven't had a bruising back at EWU for a while, something we've been sort of deficient in. But then again, I guess when you have Taiwan Jones ripping off 80 yard runs that mitigates it a little.
