TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State Director of Athletics Ron Prettyman announced today (Jan. 26) that reigning Missouri Valley Football Conference Coach Of The Year Trent Miles has inked a new five-year contract as the head coach of the Sycamore football program. Financial terms of the deal are not being disclosed.

"I am pleased that Trent Miles will be our Head Football Coach for several years to come," Prettyman said. "If we continue to grow and improve the ISU football program in future years at the same rate that it has progressed for the last three years under Coach Miles' leadership, we will be a force to be reckoned with for many years to come. Coach Miles has worked hard to change a culture in regards to Sycamore Football. He has hired a good coaching staff and he has recruited quality young men that represent our program and University well on the field, in the classroom and in the community. With a quality coach like Trent Miles at the helm, we can look forward to many exciting years ahead for Sycamore Football."

Miles was tabbed the Bruce Craddock Missouri Valley Football Conference Coach Of The Year following the Sycamores 6-5 showing during the 2010 campaign. He was the first Sycamore head coach to earn the MVFC's Coach Of The Year award in the league's 26-year history. Additionally, Miles was just the second Sycamore coach all-time to earn a league coach of the year honor, as Dennis Raetz earned Missouri Valley Conference Coach Of The Year honors in 1984.

ISU put together a stellar turnaround season in 2010, breaking a 2-60 slump by producing a 6-5 season, which was the first winning season for the program since 1996 and the team's four league victories tied for the most by a Sycamore team since joining the league in 1986.

Miles was a finalist for the Eddie Robinson National Coach Of The Year Award as well as the Liberty Mutual Coach Of The Year honor.

They were probably the best team in all facets that I watched this season. No disrespect to NDSU or UNI who actually made the playoffs though. INSU found a way to shut down our offense, the only other teams to do that in 2010 were Penn State and South Dakota State.

I am seriously shocked YSU didn't go 10-1 last season
