Congrats!!
OGDEN, Utah – Freshman Deonte Williams filled in for injured Alex Henderson this season and literally followed in his footsteps becoming the second player in three seasons from Northern Arizona to earn Newcomer of the Year. Henderson garnered the honor in 2006 after his outstanding freshman season.
Williams rushed for 950 yards on 220 carries with a team-best 12 touchdowns, A product of Sacramento, Calif., he improved his single-game season-high five times during the season and ranked second among freshmen in the FBS in rushing yards per game (86.4) and fifth in Division I overall among freshmen. Williams’ 12 touchdowns ranks tied for third on school single-season charts and are the most by a running back since 2000.

Henderson and Williams will be a great 1-2 punch next year.

The only problem is NAU needs a QB, cause what happens when someone shuts WIlliams down? They will be forced to throw the ball, and NAU's current QB is more of a runner, two perfect examples:
1. NAU 14 - Weber State 42 - Weber State scored at will vs NAU's defense, they shut down Williams, and forced NAU to throw the ball and they trew 2 interceptions.
2. NAU 10 - Montana 45 - Montana also seemed to score at will, they shut down Williams, and they forced NAU to throw as well and they threw 2 interceptions again.
Most teams that are good, cant be beat with the running game alone. You need a QB, that is why Weber usually isnt sucessful, they usually have a very good running back, but dont usually have a good QB.
But nevertheless congrats on the award, The Big Sky is going to have alot of talent at the RB position next year.

Michael Herrick, Sophomore QB who started a couple of games, is more of a pure passer than Kriesen was. The starting job will be his to lose next spring.

Good, a team that has both is very dangerous. (Weber State)

It was posted on Cal Poly's board by a new poster that Deonte Williams is transfering to Cal Poly this spring and will have 2 years left. He went from NAU to Sierra JC and then on to San Diego State where he grey shirted. Deonte was recruited by Cal Poly when he was Sierra JC.

I actually just heard about this from a friend at SDSU. I'd say this was a huge pick up for Poly. I'd say we are set at RB with Rodgers entering his Senior year and Williams with two years of eligibility left. I hope he can provide some insight to Poly on their game at SDSU next year. We will need all the help we can get.
It would be nice to see Poly pick up a pass rusher who can help compensate for the loss of Marty Mohamed

Marty Mohamed is a great player. My kids played against him and his brothers Mike and Kyle in the SD Section high school playoffs. Marty got 3 tackles and an assist, but none of the Mohamed brothers got a sack in that game - an uncharacteristic losing effort for Brawley.
Their coach - in both looks and demeanor - reminded me of Denzel Washington's antagonist, the opposing coach in "Remember the Titans."

Mike Mohamed is Marty and Kyle's cousin.
