Elon lands Maryland QB transfer

Post by ChickenMan »

Tyler Smith, a highly rated HS QB out of PA is transfering to Elon. Linked article states that Elon and Delaware were two of the three schools he considered, but surprisingly UD was not in the market for a transfer QB this year. Looks like a soild pick up for Elon and he's a guy with four years eligibility to boot.

Smith’s prep résumé from Wilson Area High School is stocked with impressive information.

He ranks second in Pennsylvania history in career passing yards (8,035) and touchdown passes (87) after throwing for 3,130 yards and 32 touchdowns during his senior season of 2009.

Scouts Inc. rated Smith the No. 8 high school quarterback in the nation. He earned 2009 SuperPrep All-American status and considered Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Iowa and Penn State before choosing Maryland.

“You’re getting one heck of a kid down there, that’s for sure,” Comp said. “He’s got one of the strongest right arms I’ve ever seen or heard of. He’s a real student of the game. He’s got a great work ethic.”

Can't blame him for transferring if he wants to play. He'd be sitting behind Danny O'Brien the enxt 3 years.
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

It's almost safe to say that UD has broken the eight-year string of transfer QBs.

So does Elon have a supporting cast? Will this thrust them into the thick of things nationally, or will this just make them average?

Well, we got a WR, Aaron Mellette. He's pretty good. Good young receiver corps around him. The RBs (AJ Harris and Jamal Shuman) aren't too bad either. The offense looks like it should be set. It's the D I'm more worried about.
