13 Penguins had had jobs with Phar-Mor during the season, in violation of NCAA rules; and nonscholarship student athletes were being illegally paid by the university's director of athletic development.
At his first meeting with Monus, Isaac received $150. According to the court documents, by the time he left Youngstown State, in 1992, Isaac had collected more than $10,000 in cash and checks from Monus and Monus's associates and employees.
Tressel was aware of the car. At times, Isaac told SI, he asked the coach for help in getting out of traffic tickets. "He'd slot out two hours to meet and say, 'Ray, I need you to read this book and give me 500 words on why it's important to be a good student-athlete,'" Isaac says. Afterward the ticket would sometimes disappear
As coach at Youngstown (Ohio) State in the mid-1990s, he claimed not to know that his star quarterback had received a car and more than $10,000 from a school trustee and his associates -- even though it was later established in court documents that Tressel had told the player to go see the trustee.
Wait a minute. Since when is it illegal for walkons to have campus jobs? That's hogwash.DJH wrote:13 Penguins had had jobs with Phar-Mor during the season, in violation of NCAA rules; and nonscholarship student athletes were being illegally paid by the university's director of athletic development.
Tainted by a dirty program. Asterisk titles.guinzone wrote:Isaac was our QB in 1991; not in 1993, 1994, 1997. I knew about the SI article weeks back and knew it wasn't going to be pretty, but it simply reiterated everything that was already known before. The NCAA isn't going to be revoking any of those titles, but go ahead and continue wishing that UNI fans.. Even if you wipe away '91, we still have 3 more than you.
I doubt the NCAA will take away any of your trophies. YSU has a great football tradition, and the Bison always look forward to a great game each year.guinzone wrote:Isaac was our QB in 1991; not in 1993, 1994, 1997. Not any different than you'd be today - YSU blasted The Citadel in '92, and then won a close game against UNI the following week (probably a safe bet that UNI would've beaten The Citadel). And even then, Marshall was waiting in the Finals and Marshall had already won against The Citadel, on the road, by 3 TD's, so Marshall would've been a very heavy favorite playing at home. Hard to see how maybe a win against YSU would've changed anything.citdog wrote:Again it is a shame that the team that ended The Citadel's best season in school history in 1992 in the playoffs was dirty. Where would our program be if we had won?
That Northern Iowa team would have had to, as YSU did, defeat us in General Johnson Hagood, CSA, Stadium. I remember the game like it was yesterday. We stopped them and made them punt and the first four plays were long runs by our FB Everette Sands and then he just dropped the ball while switching hands, put your it's suprising he would drop the ball like that considering that El Cid Cadets must masturbate a lot because we're all male...... here, and it was all downhill from there.GannonFan wrote:Not any different than you'd be today - YSU blasted The Citadel in '92, and then won a close game against UNI the following week (probably a safe bet that UNI would've beaten The Citadel). So if a player on the 1985 NC team came out and said he got a free car and some cash from a booster you think that team should forefit it's title?DJH wrote:Has won zero national titles as far as I'm concerned.

Why not? Cheating is cheating, whether it was yesterday or 20 years ago.grizzaholic wrote:So if a player on the 1985 NC team came out and said he got a free car and some cash from a booster you think that team should forefit it's title?DJH wrote:Has won zero national titles as far as I'm concerned.

riiiiiight. It was just that one incident....guinzone wrote:Isaac was our QB in 1991; not in 1993, 1994, 1997. Considering the 1985 National Champs were made up of about 40% walkons and the program was only in its fourth year of existence that would be pretty difficult to do.grizzaholic wrote:So if a player on the 1985 NC team came out and said he got a free car and some cash from a booster you think that team should forefit it's title?DJH wrote:Has won zero national titles as far as I'm concerned.

Narduzzi wasn't a bad coach for YSU back in the 70's, especially the late 70's. And didn't YSU win two Gateway titles after Tressel left?DJH wrote:riiiiiight. YSU hadn't done **** before Tressel came along, and hasn't done **** since Tressel left. Wonder why? Thats weird....

Btw, I figured you would immediately take a swipe at UNI with your first response, which you did. I don't care. I would never want to have a program that has to be dirty to win. Congrats on your titles, you have a lot to be proud of....
Right. Go ahead and compare playoff wins before/after tressel with when he was there. Completely different football program.GannonFan wrote:Narduzzi wasn't a bad coach for YSU back in the 70's, especially the late 70's. And didn't YSU win two Gateway titles after Tressel left?DJH wrote:
