There's good parts of town, and there's bad parts of town. Stay downtown or out by the airport, and you'll be fine. In fact, I was there around June, and stayed out by the airport in a pretty sleazy motel. The gal at the front counter (AA) was a student in the Grad program. Very intelligent, very sexy, and is moving out to San Jose when she graduates next spring. I left my number, told her to give me a call before moving and I'd help her navigate her relocation.

Yes, make em all sleep in the Waterloo West HS Gym, then put a barbed-wire fend around the entire school and only allow them to watch the game on a TV. This is a little too harsh. Richmond is a private school. The students/grads grew up in gated communities, went to private boarding schools and they got into the school based on the endowments and libraries paid for by their parents. Heck, their limo drivers go blocks out of the way to avoid exposing the pampered souls to these types of conditions.
This type of behavior is more attributable to the public universities in the CAA South. Those are the schools attended by the unwashed masses.

I'd never do Iowa either...no offense, but it's too much opposite of what Richmond (the city) is...

Reading all these comments, got me thinking 'bout the client I dealt with there. Large excavation, underground utility, ex-highway contractor...multi generation, been there for decades...
...but the owner was absentee...lived in Florida...the controller lived ~100 mi. away because he didn't want his kids to go to school there...only worked 3 days/wk...stayed in a hotel dtown 2 nights each wk...and all of the key employees and project managers lived in outlying areas...none lived in Richmond.
Pretty sad comment for a city with such rich heritage.

Aside from the fact I would rather get laid in the head by some stranger MILF, than gut shot in the crossfire of some Richmunde driveby, Lois is not a member of the Panther fan base.
