Fargo, ND

Yep, the game is in Fargo at the Fabulous Fargo Dome!

As many of you may remember Georgia Southern was on tap to visit this, a truly storied FCS football stadium: The prestigious Fabulous Fargo Dome. Its a great stadium with a park-like tailgate area, a large imposing presence on the beautiful NDSU campus and a green field! Yes, The NDSU Football Conglomerate is all business. No marketing tricks here, no divergence from tradition to sustain "The Program".

The NDSU Football Conglomerate does not need "neat tricks" to sustain the success of "The Program". Time has proven the Conglomerate can field a competitive team year-in and year-out in the Small College, D2 and now FCS Divisions of NCAA football.

Unlike other D1 Universities in North Dakota, History will also reveal an "anytime any place" attitude toward scheduling with big wins over BCS/FBS teams as well as Big wins in the FCS playoffs and on the road. There isnt a mythical "moral victory" blemishing the BISON record either. "The Record" has made the NDSU BISON media darlings.

Georgia Southern is in the midst of a decade long rebuilding effort. It has seen them come back more often than a bad penny. The plan all along had been to get the BISON down there first, nobody can beat GSU at home right? Then, after a little more time to rebuild, travel to Fargo with a team that would be competitive.

The first half of that plan failed. The second half of the plan was a pipe dream. When reality set in they pulled out of the contract faster than you can say "The Bulldogs are back". To replace the big game they scheduled "intra-divisional", something we have discussed in other threads. Something we have all learned is bad for the FCS, the game in general and the reputation, playoff hopes and prestige of the FCS programs scheduling such contests.

With backs to the wall, guided by the "NDSU Scheduling Model", with contacts through-out the college football world, The NDSU Football Conglomerate got on the phone and struck a deal with St. Francis. Now THE RED FLASH are coming to town in a counter game for both teams!

That sets the stage for our discussion of NDSU BISON and Red Flash Football to follow!

Laffayette and St. Francis....now there's a juggernaut of a nonconference schedule to hang your hat on.

Dont forget they are both "counter games" in the FCS. Without that knowledge you may find yourself in an awkward situation from time-to-time.

A common opponent with NDSU was Robert Morris. NDSU had a very good game with RM, competitive, well played and the officiating was superb! For those of you that are looking for an edge in prognosticating this game my tip is to pay close attention to the Robert Morris score. Just as with Lehigh, UNI and Lafayette, your deductive powers can draw similar conclusions about NDSU and St. Francis.

NDSU has played Cal Poly, Wagner and Central Connecticut in the past. All were on the Red Flash Schedule last year.

The consensus for the BISON running backs now that Siger is gone is DJ McNorton will have an expanded role. He may even be our return man. Ojuri will be #2 with Lang seeing some action. Jones, the red shirt from Az will remain a RS unless there is injury.

Montana State was forced to honor the backside of the home/home with the return game scheduled for 2013. I wonder if GSU is going to come under pressure to make things right? Im not sure what the payout was for GSU, it was ridiculously low for MSU, I think I remember $10,000.

NDSU is not entering into many home/home deals. Both of the opening games this season, Lafayette and The Red Flash are single game contracts. UND could take a lesson from that.

St. Francis comes in as a 2-9 team. They do play a wide variety of opponents. I dont expect a huge blow-out, if the game should go that way. They have been tested by fire too many times, but with both YSU and NDSU on the schedule this season they will have their hands full.

Once again your saying ndsu "forced" MSU to the return game. Once again your delusional.

I think NDSU put a lot of pressure on Montana State to "make good" on their commitment. Im not sure the buyout was ever paid? I havent heard of any talk about a guarantee being paid to MSU either. Im pretty sure this is the backside of a home/home that Montana State tried to get out of. Maybe they just changed their minds, were uncertain of what they wanted or decided they were "hasty"? Or, maybe NDSU applied the pressure?

MSU will be in Fargo in 2013. That will probably be the biggest OOC game of the year for them.

I dont have a link but I believe GSU paid their buyout to NDSU. It was much larger than the MSU buyout of the NDSU game but still not enough.

I think St. Francis is picking up something like $125,000 for this game?

O.K. It went from "forced" to "put a lot of pressure on."

Here is how it went down. MSU returned a call by ndsu and said that they had an open date in 2013 for the return game and would be happy to play it then. If not, the chump change check for $10,000 is in the mail.

Like I said that phone call was not their idea. It didnt just happen and the "take-it-or-leave-it" you are referring to was a formality only. MSU was already schooled in what the real deal was. Its subtle so you might not get it, you seem rather abrupt. But it was force "none-the-less".

from the source wrote:It would be nice to get the opinion on the St. Francis game from some of the NDSU elite posters, Endzone QB and TjBison come to mind immediately (Both are incomparable in their wit and insight, its truly a blessing we have those superior minds in our fan base).

With those exquisite personalities and outstanding ambassadors of NDSU football chiming in, their precious input might shed some light on the GSU buyout, the St. Francis guarantee and how it all worked out financially for NDSU.

I know both those fellows are lurkers here, they comment on BV about NDSU threads on the "tard boards", as they call it, all the time. They may just bless us with their presence.
Excellent post!

I do know that NDSU has strong season ticket sales, around 10,000 and growing, so the guarantee is never at risk. My best guess: a home game provides NDSU with at least $250,000 in profits. Thats what drives the payout for NDSU and its FBS guarantees. GSU may have done NDSU a big financial favor by backing out if the buy out was big enough to cover travel costs to their place and a little extra for the hassel?
