Big Sky Sends UND a Warning: We Have A Problem

In a beautifully written, strong letter the Big Sky has told UND their admittance into the conference may be on the line over the "marks".

(The Conference ) is forced to consider the ramifications of the continued use of the Fighting Sioux name and marks.
Could this lead to a time when league play and possible league membership could be affected?
We are concerned that this state law has the possibility of destroying division 1 athletics at UND.

I dont think there is any chance of that happening.

UND should abandoned all use of the marks and imagry. Completly abolish its public use but never change the official name, just as they have done with their official colors of pink and green. That way they could stay in the BSC and still comply with the law of the land.

If UND is unable to divest themselves of their stubborn interests it wont be long before the talk starts on a replacement school. Of course the BSC is going to look to NDSU, SDSU and USD but none of them are going. You would have to be crazy, desperate or both to sign up for that travel nightmare.
Right now, considering schools like EWU, Weber State, Portland State etc have been given WAC consideration UND might as well give them a call. They might even be more desperate than UND?

The BSC wouldn't need to add anybody if UND couldn't join. 12 teams for football and 10 for all other sports.

I hate to see it end this way. Of course there is going to have to be some adjustment in Grand Forks now that its known Dr. Chapman and Commissioner Douple arent responsible. In the end its going to be the Big Sky Conference. The alter UND worships at, outside of "teh hockies" of course. But even with the knowledge the great saviour is also the great enforcer UND can finally, if they are smart enough, join the league.

I think that the BSC schools need to tell the conference to be quiet. The Big Sky needs to stay out of this and if anything support UND. This is a member of the conference the Big Sky works for the school not the other way around there Big Sky needs to be helping them. I for one like the name I find nothing offensive about it. If the Big Sky has no spine then the BS schools need to start putting pressure to remove the conference President or at other options.

You didn't hear? WAC is offering blowjobs to any Big Sky school that will join them. Lamar offered them their ass but they have declined until every Big Sky school has been offered a BJ or until 2013.

And yes, actually. There have been a few things in the media that have mentioned WAC interest. One of them was the San Jose paper, but there have been a few more. Although I don't really think anyone's taken it seriously, is it out of line to think that a metro area of over half a million could support an FBS team? I personally wouldn't want the WAC, but 10, 20 years down the road when the landscape of college football has changed as well as the demographics of the area/school, then who knows?
As for UND, I think it's in everyone's interests if they just end the posturing and change the name. At the end of the day, it just seems like they're cutting their nose off to spite their face.

I think that if the schools don’t stand up to the NCAA now it is going to be problems in the future. This issue is outside of the scope of the NCAA. The school could argue this infringes on freedom of speech, or a possible discrimination law suit against the NCAA school. If they make them change it because they don’t have perdition from the Sioux Notre Dam needs to change their name, I am Irish it offends me. This is an issue that needs to be fought.
