North Alabama approves a move to D-I
they are looking for an OVC invite. I'm sure they'd take a Big South or A-Sun invite as well. If ASC, they'll need to look for fb only membership.

UNA is a top notch D-II school and the home of the D-II title game. I'm sure they'd be able to compete in the OVC, Big South, SLC in a few years, if someone invites them to D-I.

You guys have 11, it would make sense. I'm thinking that you guys are waiting on Kennesaw St. to start football, then take them as #12.DKHardee wrote:I'd accept them in the Big South.Fresno St. Alum wrote:UNA is a top notch D-II school and the home of the D-II title. Would the game move upon completion of the upgrade to FCS?Fresno St. Alum wrote:UNA is a top notch D-II school and the home of the D-II title game. I'm sure they'd be able to compete in the OVC, Big South, SLC in a few years, if someone invites them to D-I.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

says the school that never goes to the playoffs and may drop to the NEC or drop football all together. If you don't like it don't post in here. They were a worthy opponent in D2 and I expect the same in FCS. For NDSU it will be a chance to renew competition with an old rival at a new level.
Dear Lord, We come before you and humbly ask you to grant our prayer for a veil of protection to be placed over Donald Trump. May your will be done. In Jesus name we pray. Amen

It is good to have teams move up. It improves the FCS as a whole and in its own small way will add support the FCS.

Re: North Alabama approves a move to D-I
I expected North Alabama to move up earlier. I think the main thing that has held them back is their hosting the Division II championship. They would be a fine addition to the Ohio Valley, Big South, or Southern--the conferences probably most likely to take them.
In other news, the presidents of UVU and Seattle made 30 minute presentations to the WAC presidents in person yesterday and CSU-Bakersfield did one by VTC. An announcement of WAC expansion plans (if any) is expected by 2 PM mountain time today.

Re: North Alabama approves a move to D-I
true, good point. But then again I could name a couple schools at the FCS level who have terrible facilities. Jacksonville is an example. However, they did make some improvements by putting in a new turf.mainejeff wrote:It's the South.......it's football.......what do you expect?ODUalum11 wrote:they definitely look like they have some nice facilities...

EPJr. we got it up already.
Side Note for you EP. Virginia-Lynchburg is starting sports and playing D-II & D-I schools. They said they want to get back in the CIAA. What do you know about them and their chances of re-admission?

Re: North Alabama approves a move to D-I
Some interesting information on their football program....

Terry Bowden (born 1956) is an American football coach at the University of North Alabama. Bowden was previously the head coach at Salem University (1983–1985), Samford University (1987–1992), and Auburn University (1993–1998). Bowden is the son of former Florida State University head football coach Bobby Bowden. He is the brother of Tommy Bowden, the former head football coach at Clemson University, and Jeff Bowden, the former offensive coordinator at Florida State who serves as Terry's receivers coach at North Alabama.
The Lions are distinguished as the only team to win three consecutive football national championships in NCAA Division II. UNA's 27 consecutive weeks at #1 in the Division II polls also comprise the longest stretch of consecutive No. 1 rankings in football in NCAA history on any level. UNA became one of only nine DII schools to beat a Division I-A (FBS) team (since the NCAA's restructuring in 1972) when they beat Southwestern Louisiana on October 11, 1997. The Lions won 48-42 after going to 4 OT's.

Former Auburn head coach Terry Bowden was named the new head coach of UNA on January 1, 2009. Bowden's brother Jeff also joins Terry at UNA as the WR coach.[4] Pre-season hype focused on Bowden's remedy to a re-building roster by acquiring over twenty-five transfers from Division I schools including several from his father's Florida State team. The 2009 campaign would climax late in the season with an undefeated 10-0 record and the school's return to the #1 ranking for the first time since 1996. The season wrapped up with a UNA loss in the regional finals with a record of 11-2.

The most successful era in UNA football history followed the hiring of Bobby Wallace as head football coach. Following a four-year rebuilding period, Wallace led the Lions to a 7-4-1 record in 1992 and competed in the second round of the Division II championship until a loss to the team that ended up that year’s Division II national champions.
Over the next three years, UNA amassed a 41-1 record, which also encompassed three state Gulf South Conference Championships and three consecutive NCAA Division II National Championships — the first three-peat in NCAA history.
The only loss UNA suffered during this 3-year period was to Youngstown State, a Division I-AA power at the time, losing narrowly, 17-14, following a field goal in the fourth quarter. Youngstown State went on to win the 1994 I-AA national championship.
During Wallace’s 10-year tenure, the UNA Lions competed in six NCAA playoffs and compiled an 82-36-1 record.
In 1995, UNA Lions were selected the “Best Team of the Quarter Century” in Division II, while Wallace was named Division II‘s “Coach of the Quarter Century.”
Following their third consecutive Division II National Championship, the Lions were invited to the White House to meet President Bill Clinton, Vice President Al Gore and members of Congress.
Re: North Alabama approves a move to D-I
And we just added Janoris Jenkins from Florida to our secondary. He's expected to be a 1st rounder next year. He joins one of the top safeties Rod Woodson (transfer from Bama), Bryan Thomas (Florida), Nick Williams (UGA) and Lucas Darr (S.Florida) in our secondary. I wouldn't want to run a route through THAT secondary!
