BIG SKY to dump hostile & abusive naia team
---- a LIL birdie told me today that BIG SKY WILL BE KICKING OUT und BEFORE THEY EVEN BEGIN!! (he talked to a MONTANA school AD rep---cant say which one)
ha ha, karma
plus, no matter what the nickname is changed to, their fans will continue the oppression of the fighting sioux tribe with chants/tshirts, etc.
NCAA told them today they arent changing their policy, so its off to the NAIA, at least theyll compete.....
way to go AL CARLSON, you such a fool that this actually worked, haha.

Uh, I hate to break it to ya, but the NCAA has no say on a team's choice of mascot. They have a say on what's done for playoffs and post-season tournaments, but that's about it. About all the NCAA can do is make them remove the insignia or face a road playoff game. They can't kick them out.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

I also thought UND was allowed to keep the Fighting Sioux nickname?SuperHornet wrote:Uh, I hate to break it to ya, but the NCAA has no say on a team's choice of mascot. Re: BIG SKY to dump hostile & abusive naia team
The Big Sky straight-up told UND to dump the nickname a little while ago. The letter was posted online.
The ND state legislature passed a bill making it illegal for UND to dump the Fighting Sioux nickname.
The NCAA came out today and said they stand with the Big Sky and their policy.
I wouldn't trust Lakes with a two-car funeral, but this COA wouldn't surprise me.

UND wasn't able to fulfill the settlement with the NCAA,which required approval by two tribes by Nov. 30th, 2010, so they will be placed on the "hostile and abusive" list on Aug.15th, 2011. This means they cannot host or wear Sioux logos during NCAA championships.ODUalum11 wrote:I also thought UND was allowed to keep the Fighting Sioux nickname?SuperHornet wrote:Uh, I hate to break it to ya, but the NCAA has no say on a team's choice of mascot. The North Dakota legislation passed a law that requires UND in which they cannot discontinue the use of the nickname or logo, which has put UND in quite the predicament.

If such a thing ever happened, I would pray to God the MVFC picked them up
Considering the source though I'm going to assume the opposite will happen

Re: BIG SKY to dump hostile & abusive naia team
Why do NDSU fans hate UND so much? I haven't been on this board for that long, but it seems like there are always Bison fans talking utter smack about their rivals.
I lift weights with a guy who played ball at UND, and he told me it was a pretty good place to go to school. He's never mentioned any hatred of North Dakota State. Just the same, I've never noticed any UND fan post a bunch of smack about NDSU. Why is it a one way street? As someone posted earlier, is this *really* the most interesting thing to do in North Dakota?

That's the bizarre thing; how one-sided it is. Then again, NDSU fans really seem to have problems with a lot of other programs/fanbasesLDopaPDX wrote:Why do NDSU fans hate UND so much? They came across very arrogant when they played Eastern in the playoffs this year... and I'd think our team and fans would love to play and beat them again (and again, and again...) They got literally our worst effort of the year in many areas and still couldn't win and went on a rampage about how they got jobbed, etc.
Personally, I and most other Eastern fans have a lot of respect for Montana and their program despite felling "jobbed" by the Griz on a few occassions. Sometimes you just get beat, sometimes there are questionable calls. Of course, NDSU could have taken their free kickoff return for TD, loss of our leading rusher, and 5 turnovers and won the game, but they didn't. Nuff Said.

Doesnt matter what you think of NDSU, my source stands by his info.
afterall, it was a MONTAN schools contact that told him today.
as for the NDSU/und thing?? they are the genital wart on our area, and sometimes in other parts of the country gets lumped in the conversation with NDSU's sucess, when they havent done squat.
NDSU has the D1 success in its infant state...

Because historically, UND has owned the prairie dogs on the football field. In the last 13 meetings between the two schools, NDSU has won 3 times. That's a lot of bitterness.LDopaPDX wrote:Why do NDSU fans hate UND so much? They haven't done squat? Haven't they won something like 6-7 national hockey championships? I'd reckon their hockey program is better than any other single program associated with a Big Sky school. Now you may have been talking specific to football, but winning national championships in hockey is still accomplishing a lot. It sure as hell isn't women's swimming. I can think of a lot of big name schools who would love to have several national championships in hockey.lakesbison wrote:Doesnt matter what you think of NDSU, my source stands by his info.

who gives a sh.t about HOCKEY? just drunk canadians, maybe.
game 7 got a 2.4 rating nationwide. college hockey gets a .2 rating, seroiusly.
NDSU has beaten 4 FBS teams, ranked #1 twice, quarterfinals of NCAA FCS (only to get JOBBED)
NDSU is just fine thank you, its been 7 years since we've played the NAIA losing team (U sioux falls )

Hockey is gradually starting to come back. Hockey took a big hit when the NHL went through their lockout but I believe each year ratings are gradually starting to get better and better ever since.lakesbison wrote:who gives a sh.t about HOCKEY? just drunk canadians, maybe.

And who cares about Hockey? Obviously schools like UND, Boston College, Michigan, Northeastern, Notre Dame and pretty much every other school in the northern states.
FWIW, I'd love it if ODU had a varsity hockey team that was competitive on the national stage.

Re: BIG SKY to dump hostile & abusive naia team
before one NDSU fan (okay, okay, MOST of the fans of NDSU that post online...) ruin our entire fan base - allow me to interject.
The seeming preoccupation with UND:
1. When NDSU announced they were moving up - UND, in a move I still to this day cannot understand - called a press conference to basically mock the move. The rivalry was already intense - this poured gasoline all over it.
2. The provincial nature of fans in the state... no getting around it... nobody outside of the Dakotas has ever heard of it, nor cares... but it's the whole damn world in North Dakota... I lived there for four years, and I still don't get it.
3. The best analogy I can give you - NDSU is little brother (despite what our fans will tell you) - SU was second best in MANY MANY ways (including funding) for decades... NDSU moving up - and having success - can be likened to little brother hitting maturity and growing bigger and stronger than their older brother who bullied them as kids... little brother can't let it go and will seek to remind older brother who is bigger now.
Is it an unbelievably petty and stupid pissing match? you bet your ass.

yes - but an NDSU fan might be inclined to laugh themselves silly at the fact that the WCHA is losing Minnesota and Wisconsin to the Big 10 (now that they sponsor it)ODUalum11 wrote:Hockey is gradually starting to come back. Oh please, to label this as a one sided thing is completely ridiculous. Posters on here don't knew nearly enough to say that NDSU always eggs on everything. Every fan isn't on message boards and believe me NDSU and und hate each other just as much. Message board fans don't reflect everything...
However, the possible downfall of und athletics due to a dumping from the big sky is just sweet sounding. Never have and never will cheer for them in anything. My rant is over, carry on![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
