Not official yet, but rumors swirling from multiple people in the know point to Jessel Curry. Sophomore eligibility played in 6 games as a true freshman for AU last year. Former state AA defensive player of the year from Buford, GA.

Be interesting to see if he does land there...but whether or not he actually contributes is another story...Ive said this in many discussions before and it bears repeating...just because a player comes from a I-A/FBS school doesnt mean he instantly is going to light the world on fire in FCS and become an instant All-American...there are those that do (Devlin was a fine example of that at UD, so was Flacco), but for everyone that does, there are probably three or four that turn out to be either contributors or total busts.

We've had some pretty good success with transfers on the Defensive side of the ball...I agree there are no guarantees that a player will work but the learning curve for an OLD is quicker than a QB...the kid has talent, he played 6 games as a true freshmen on the FBS champs...we need him to help us put pressure on the QB. Our pass rush is suspect at best.

if a guy gets thrown out of auburn for academic/disciplinary reasons, that's not the type of player you want on your team.

Those who live in glass houses... :coffee:

And see my edit; UD only has 4. You guys have 75% more transfers than we do.

They must've just added Miller and Pavel, because I've never seen them on the roster before now. Didn't realize Mealey was a transfer.

And I'll throw all the stones I want. :tothehand: :D

Compared to the Marshall teams that beat us in the playoffs in the early 90s, 7 and 4 transfers are a drop in the bucket. Those teams were half transfers back then.

If the guy is from GA, did he not consider GSU or GST? Kind of odd that he would bypass all the So-Con schools in the southeast and end up at UD.

I'm going to do something I rarely do and defend UD here. Nothing wrong with transfers as long as you keep the total # in the single digits. UD only returns 4 starters on defense, and I know they got a DB transfer from MD? to go along with this new one, so looks like 2 of their new starters on defense will be transfers.

JMU currently has 2 new transfers, 7 total slated to be on the roster this season, likely 4-5 starters.
-Cuse transfer who will likely be a 2nd yr starter at DT
-Army transfer who will likely be the other starter at DT (started the 1st 2 games, out for season injury suffered vs VT)
-UVA transfer who will be a 2nd yr starter at WR
-Marshall transfer who was slated to start for Marshal at OG (who was from 1/2 hr from JMU and cousin starts at receiver for JMU) and will likely be the one new starter at OL for JMU (not on the roster yet).
-K-State QB transfer Billy Cosh who is in a 3 way battle for the starting QB spot
-Marshal transfer at DB who might be 2 deep
-WVU transfer at kicker

I remember UMass about 5-6 years ago had something like 2 doz transfers. Were the true "Transfer U". That's absolutely ridiculous..

I still count JUCOs as transfers, since they didn't matriculate directly from high school, and are defined as transfers by the NCAA. So I add LB Paul Worrilow to my list of transfers along with an incoming DB from our national signing day group.

I was counting JuCo's. Didn't you see the Idaho kid I listed for EWU? ;)

I was more referring to BDKJMU since he mentioned single digits as being a pre-req, and at least on the current roster for JMU I count 10 transfers inclusive of 4 year schools, community/junior college & post-graduate militaries like FUMA & Hargrave.

Thats fair...I'll see guys on occasion (like kperk) who talk up an FBS transfer like they are the second coming of (insert name of Hall of Fame player or All American at that position here) and that they are just going to dominate at this level. A lot of transfers do...ok, but then you have guys who just do not pan out, whether its issues with the philosophy or injuries, or the outside possibility that they just cant hack it in football at the D-I level. I dont know how this kid is going to do, I just try to take a step back and manage expectations

Woohoo!!! Yeah, got us some Auburn-trained kick-ass assassin - gonna suck to be an opposin' QB/RB this season at daTub! Gonna go all gladiator on 'em:

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go secure my valuables and hide my daughter...

I think we've got that covered. Unless you'd be interested in hearing the story of a nice young man named Rob Schoenhoft...

While we appreciate Liberty fan's desire to want to manage our expectations for us, UD fans have had enough experience with transfers over the years to determine what is and isn't a reasonable level of anticipation.

On the whole, Keeler & Tubby before him have done terrific jobs screening kids who fit the school's profile & the FB program's needs. We've had a few flops to be sure but many more success stories. :thumb:
