Assuming Hill will be suspended, GSU might be down to their 4th string QB once practices start in a couple weeks. Their starting QB has already been suspended, I believe their 2nd or 3rd string QB transferred, and now Hill....GSU I believe could be starting a true freshman at QB this year.
In other words, Panther Nation is really starting to panic.

Let's make a board rule that when one is talking about Georgia State we say "Georgia State." To most long term followers of I-AA and now FCS, "GSU" is "Georgia Southern." Same thing with Grambling, by the way. Yes, I know Grambling has a lot of tradition and pride. But let's call it "Grambling."
Again, to most people who have followed I-AA/FCS football in general "GSU" is that program that's won 6 national championships through the I-AA/FCS playoff system.
I mean, who cares if Georgia State lost its quarterbacks? Georgia State isn't going to be doing anything anyway. GSU is the one that was in the FCS semis last year after bringing back its traditional option offense.

Sorry, my mistake. Also didn't realize this message board was for relevant FCS programs only. Maybe you should make another rule for that.

LOL! No, it's for irrelevant FCS programs also. It's just that "GSU" means something. Like when I saw the thread title I thought, "Holy Smoke! Georgia Southern's got a quarterback problem!"
And, really, I don't think of Georgia State as even a real FCS program. My understanding is that they are just passing through. And they probably won't ever really do anything while they're passing.

Hey! I didn't realize one could change that thread title! That's cool.

This is like watching 5 inmates in asylum talk to each other.
So if I start calling myself President George W Bush and keep doing it for long enough people and convince them that is my name, then the guy in Crawford, TX will have to change his name.
The fans who get so upset about Georgia State being called GSU would have 1/2 case if Georgia Southern's administration actually were proponents of being called GSU. But they are not and fact expressly say that they are GS or Georgia Southern.

I thought we were done with this ridiculous line of conversation. Georgia Southern is only GSU among FCS message boards. Here in Georgia everyone goes

when they are told that Georgia Southern fans call themselves GSU.
Regarding the actual thread, the Kelton situation has been a shock to most of us. He is the son of a retired police officer. Not the kid that you would at all think would be wrapped up in something like this. It does show the pitfalls of dealing with 18 and 19 year olds. Bad decision making skills. Thank God that Drew (Little) will be back by game 5. We also have a true Freshman who has been impressing in 7 on 7 drills against Georgia Tech from what I hear. He led Brookwood HS to the Georgia AAAAA High School Championship last season. So I think we will be fine. I am more shaken by what this situation means for the young man's (Kelton) future. I pray that he realizes what he has done and the impact to his future.

LOL! It's not like it was going to ruin my day! But it really is true that when I saw the title of the thread I thought it was going to be about Georgia Southern. Yes, Georgia State's initials are "GSU" as are Grambling State's and probably some others if I looked around long enough. And now I know that Georgia Southern's administration would like "GS" better.
But Georgia Southern is inseparable from I-AA/FCS playoff history. And when I lived in Georgia I saw "GSU" stuff on Georgia Southern gear all the time. It's just that within the community of fans who have followed I-AA then FCS for a long time "GSU" calls Georgia Southern to mind You honestly don't think "Georgia State" or "Grambling State" when you see that.

To some, GSU is Georgia State. To others, it's Georgia Southern. And to others, it's Grambling State. But I think most of us don't actually care. We're able to differentiate between the three from the context available.
edit: lol @ GSU for losing their two starting quarterbacks to disciplinary problems. Too bad you guys don't have Taylor Heinicke.

Traditionally, whenever "S" is immediately followed by a "U" in a school's initials, the "S" stands for "State". GaSot knew this when they attempted to co-opt our initials, hoping it would appeal to all those in south Georgia who were choosing to FSU over them. That you bought their ruse really says quite a bit.
Fsu.edu, osu.edu, asu.edu, msu.edu, isu.edu, wsu.edu, psu.edu, gsu.edu - they all have one thing in common: the "S" stands for "State"!!

Well, the "s" in USC (as in usc.edu) stands for Southern (as in Southern California) so apparently this rule has some exceptions. But it does bear the question - if Georgia Southern couldn't get the "gsu" address, why should Georgia State, which did get it, not get to use the abbreviation? I'm fine with calling Grambling just "Grambling" - heck, I didn't even know that Grambling was officially "Grambling State University" - the Grambling part alone is readidly identifiable. Maybe we can call one the CAA's GSU and the other the SoCon's GSU?

...and we have since we became a university in 1969. Everyone in Georgia calls the school from Statesboro , Southern. Always have. They did not become a university until 1991. They have the greatest program in FCS history. Why they have to keep up this identity crisis is beyond me. Even their baseball team's caps say GS. We have gsu.edu because that's who we are and the Georgia Southern administration and the Georgia Board of Regents seems to agree so that is good enough for me.

Meh, whatever. You guys are going to have to accept that on message boards Georgia Southern owns the acronym GSU.

Actually we are not the ones who keep bringing us up constantly. LOL. Was just reading a stadium thread on AGS and some Georgia Southern poster bought us into the issue for no apparent reason. But if they want to own it on two message boards, more power to them.

THat's ok....to some, UM is Minnesota...to a few more, it's Michigan. But to the vast majority of America, it's the University of Montana.

back to what this thread was orignally started for....
Kelton Hill might have been kicked off the team for his recent actions. I just checked their roster and he is no longer listed. Currently they only have 2 QB's...one who is Drew Little as we all know was going to be their #1 QB this year but was suspended for the first 4 games and then true freshman Ben McLane. I doubt Curry reduces Little's suspension but is it a possibility? I also think at this point they will not be able to get any transfers either since practice starts in less than 2 weeks.

I was just reading PantherTalk and saw that panama commented that ODU is a "must win." Care to elaborate panama because I don't get it.

I read PT regularly and they continue to discuss how they think they should have won last year's game against ODU if it wasn't for the turnovers and the costly mistakes. From my point of view it's a revenge game for them and it's a future conference opponent and potential rivalry between two start-up programs. I also think this game will help or hurt their fan support as well.

I think if you read my entire post you get the gist of what I mean. The ODU game is the second game of the season. We play Jax State and Houston away in weeks 3 and 4. Last year there was a student attendance drop off after we lost to Lambuth (game two) and then (Jax State) (game 3). So I am saying that ODU at home is a must win to keep the sidewalk fans and the students in it. Has little to do with last year's ODU game. Would I like to win it? Yes. Is it a revenge game, a little but not even close to USA. THEY I want carried out on stretchers, LOL. Seriously though, its the pitfalls of major city sports. Fortunately I think this year we have done a better job of maneuvering around Georgia Tech and Georgia's home schedules. But it is still a challenge.
