New CAA QBs

Tribe CAA schedule is loaded pretty early this year, with JMU, Villanova, UD and UNH in a 4 week stretch. All of those teams will be sporting new QBs, however. Any thoughts on ranking the new QBs?

I don't know which of the 4 will end up being the best quarterback, but I would guess Trevor Sasek will show the best, given his experienced offensive line and the weapons they have around him.

Towson has a crap load at QB this year. Peter Athens who started 6 game his true freshman year is back after redshirting last year. Brian Potts(Jr) had such a good spring he was named a captain and forced Ambrose to not name Athens as the starter. A kid named Grant Enders who is a CC transfer. And three new true freshman QBs. And now we have Leon Kinnard, a UConn transfer, that Ambrose recruited when he was up there as the OC.

Villanova's Dustin Thomas (if I have his name right) has the ability to move the most this season as he'd be probably ranked the lowest today. VU has to overcome some huge losses on the line - 3 really good guys including the "best side" in the CAA the last 2 years.

Decker played some for UNH including a playoff game (well it was against MEAC Bethune-Cookman) but McDonnell has a pretty good track record with QB's & they have some good skill people returning.

JMU still hasn't made it's decision but you'd think MM will pick Thorpe over Cosh. I don't see how Cosh fits into that offensive scheme. Thorpe may do OK, but JMU's OL is a big question mark & WR isn't a real strong point for the Dukes. Moving Scott to RB may take some pressure off Thorpe.

Sasek got a few full games in last season & will benefit from his supporting cast - 4 all-league caliber OL's including a consensus All-American, all the RB's back with another consensus All-American and some good WR's. After Navy, the schedule is not hard the next 4 games, we'll see by October what he has.

This would be a good thread to revisit Oct 1, Nov 1 and Dec 1, the actual playing results may move rankings all over the place....

Depends on if you're ranking just the athlete, or the team he's on.

Based on pure playing experience, I'd think you have to rank Decker (UNH) 1st, followed by Thorpe (JMU), Sasek (UD), then Thomas (Nova). However, shouldn't UMass, Towson and ODU's QB be in this conversation too??

Which QB's team will give that QB the best chance of being successful could change your rankings. I think Sasek then moves to the #1 spot, followed by Decker, then Thorpe and Thomas.

I think the more interesting ranking would be between Paulus (W&M), Probst (URI), Corp (UR), and Smith (UM). Again, this topic can be revisited Oct 1, and again during that first weekend in Nov.

Thanks for the feedback. Not so sure, jstclmet, about where you're putting DeMarco. Think I'd want to compare him to the latter guys you mentioned.

Thomas DeMarco from Old Dominion is new to the CAA, but experienced. It would be cheating to include him in the list. But if you do, he gets my pick as the top newcomer.

The thread title is "New CAA QB's", that's why I included Demarco with the first group. He and his team will be playing in the CAA for the first time. Paulus et al., has at least a season under their belts playing in the CAA. I know Paulus and Corp only played a partial season last year, but I think that plus their resume gives them a step up over the first group.
