Comment From Guest Guest :
You really think ODU has a chance against Delaware? I know the team will be pumped like they were against WM but with the exception of maybe GSU in Week 2 it will be their first true road test.
Rich Radford: I do, and here's why: Delaware has to play Navy this Saturday and they could come out of that game really banged up. Navy's unique offense and blocking scheme has a way of messing with defenses and sometimes gets defenders hurt and banged up. Plus, Delaware has to replace its QB from a year ago. And ODU will go to Delaware more jacked up than can be measured. Did you hear the one about Appalachian State going to Michigan a few years ago?

He did prove a good point that you guys do have to play Navy, obviously a FBS team to start the season. I actually played under the exact same system Navy runs in high school so I am quite familiar with it since my HS head coach was a huge navy fan. Our starting QB actually had a full-ride to Navy but later dropped out. But then again thats not to say we won't be banged up either.

Navy has nothing to do with it for me. The Hens don't face ODU until three weeks after Navy.

Don't think so.

Yep, whatever you guys need to boost your confidence...go ahead. For the record, yea we do play Navy on Saturday, then UD basically has 2 weeks off with West Chester & DelState to get ready for CAA play & ODU making the trip to the Tub. If you need the App State-Michigan analogy to get you going - more power to you.

It will be old-time football strategy. You will establish the run and move the chains with the occasional pass as we put 8 in the box. You will put together 8 minute scoring drives. Our offense will be off the field in 3 minutes whether we score or not. Our defense will be worn out by the end of the game.

I'd take that all year.

Full ride to Navy, you say!?! Never heard of one.
The thing ODU has going for it is it will be their Super Bowl up to that point and their first true CAA game and for Delaware it's just another CAA game and one against an unproven competitor. It's how ODU comes back against the following week against UMass, URI, Towson, Nova, JMU, Richmond and W&M that will tell your tale.
The onus is on Delaware to get up for this game.
Comparing UD/Navy to ASU/Michigan is laughable.

+1
Regardless though I do agree with Andy either way. There isn't that much of a difference in talent in either of those comparisons. Navy isn't exactly Alabama or any other high caliber SEC program or Oregon or Oklahoma.

The Navy game point would make more sense if there wasn't three weeks between games.
I do think it'll be a scare for UD, especially since ODU fans will be jacked up and be louder than the old Hen fans, but I don't see the upset.

Almost. I have to admit that my favorite things at UD games is to see Section H packed with 500 loud visiting fans that might even get to cheer as their team hangs with UD... for a while. Then the crickets. Best was last year with GSU in all their camo gear. By the end of the game they were disguised as empty seats.

Enjoy every game, including those crappy ones tomorrow.

Georgia Southern looked great against W&M too. How'd that end up?

Who's Rich Radford, and what makes his opinion any more valuable than the guy who makes the same money emptying bed pans at my great aunt's nursing home?

The only team that has a chance against UD on Sep 24th is ODU. Any team CAN win but UD will most likely be the toughest outing for ODU this season. It's not always determined by which team is better. Certain teams match up with other teams very well. In W&M's case, they had no answer for the GSU's T.O. UD, on the other hand, has experience defensing the T.O. because of Keeler's experience against Navy. W&M and UD have similar offenses so they tend to play each other pretty closely (I believe somewhere close to .500 over the past 10 years). Either way, ODU has a football team! A reason to get fired up on Saturdays. Makes waiting for the basketball season a little easier. I've been a Tribe fan since 1989. Lots of up and down years in there. My advice for Monarchs fans is to be patient, enjoy what you have, and know that your team will be competitive more times than not.

You didn't gather the fuller meaning of what I was saying, fella.
I actually know this guy is the beat writer for ODU football. What I was driving at, that you obviously didn't pick up on, is why you think his opinion on whether or not ODU can or can't beat UD in football means sheeeet to anyone else? Is there anything in his resume that should have us think his opinion is of any greater value than anyone that posts on this messageboard that's been following CAA/A-10/Yankee Conference football for the last 20 or so years?
His explanation of why ODU could beat Delaware is that Delaware plays Navy 3 weeks beforehand, we have to replace a QB (like the majority of teams in the conference) and that App State beat Michigan. Some very high brow football analysis there. How about postulating about stopping UD's running game, or strong tacklers on defense, or having a great running game of your own, or pointing to a weakness of UD's and how it plays into ODU's strengths, or maybe something in Wilder's past experience as a football coach that makes you think he can outwit Keeler?
Based upon his live chat, I got the impression he'd be better off pointing me in the direction of the best fish sandwich in Norfolk, as opposed to football handicapping.

all valid points, I bet if he was giving more time he would have gone more in depth but he had a lot more questions to answer obviously. I just think since he's a beat writer for ODU Football that adds some credibility.
