I think the CAA will do better this week....

Old Dominion (1-0) @ Georgia State (1-0)
New Hampshire (0-1) @ Lehigh (1-0)
Maine (1-0) @ Pittsburgh (1-0) ESPN3.com
William & Mary (0-1) @ Virginia Military (0-1)
Rhode Island (0-0) @ Syracuse (1-0) ESPN3.com
West Chester (0-1) @ Delaware (0-1)
Central Connecticut (1-0) @ James Madison (0-1)
Wagner (1-0) @ Richmond (1-0)
Villanova (0-1) @ Towson (1-0)

My picks...
New Hampshire, Pitt, WM, 'Cuse, UDel, JMU, Richmond, Villanova.

Don't be too quick to pick ODU over GSU. GSU is a talented team who's going to be looking for revenge and is well coached and will be at home in which is for sure going to be a huge crowd at the Georgia Dome. I'm extremely concerned about ODU going into the Dome and getting beat.

Towson surprises, I know, I know, the lowly Towson can't possibly beat Nova, you may be right, but I think they surprise this year. Lehigh could beat New Hampshire, but, I think New Hampshire pulls out the W.

The Lehigh players have been openly talking about the UNH game since the end of last year. This is the best Lehigh team since the early to mid 00's, they have the horses. UNH is still a darn good team despite their loss to Toledo. There's no doubt Goodman Stadium will be one of the places to be on Saturday.

Yep, I agree. Of course, that is picking the straight favorites.

I-A Games:

Maine @ Pitt by 3-4 TDs.
Last week Maine 28, Bryant 13 . Pitt 35, Buffalo 16
The Maine/Bryant game wasn’t as close as the score indicated. Going into the 4th Maine was up 28-0. Its probably not like Bryant sucks, either. The NEC coaches have Bryant picked to finish 5th, and Phil Steele has them picked to finish 2nd in the NEC. Meanwhile Pitt beat by 19 a Buffalo team that finished 2-10 last year and is picked to finish in the bottom half of the MAC East again this season, so Buffalo probably isn't that much better than Maine.

URI @ Syracuse by 4-5 TDs.
Last week URI bye; Syracuse 36, Wake Forest 29.
Hurts URI that they didn’t get to play a game last week. CAA teams have gotten worked over in 5 of 6 I-A games. After this weekend, it will be 7 of 8.

CAA vs CAA:
Villanova @ Towson. Villanova by a TD or less.
Last week Temple 42, Villanova 7; Towson 42, Morgan State 3.
I picked Towson to beat Morgan by 2-3 TDs. The last time the 2 teams played was 09’ when Morgan State beat Towson 12-9. Steele picked Morgan State to to finish 6th in the 11 team MEAC, which means they are likely a very bad team, but bad enough for a typical Towson to beat them 42-3? Villanova has sunk a lot from last season, and Towson has undoubtedly improved. I predicted Towson would win a CAA game, but couldn’t figure out who. Of their CAA games, this is one of their best chances: Villanova, UR, @ ODU, @ W&M, UD, @ Maine, UNH, @ URI.
On the one hand this is on the road for Villanova for the 2nd straight week. On the other hand, it is the 2nd straight rather short bus trip (should be about 2 hrs). They will be looking to bounce back from their embarrassing performance last week @ Temple. I just can’t quite bring myself to pick Towson, but it certainly wouldn’t surprise me.

Versus OOC I-AA:

UNH @ Lehigh. UNH by a TD or less in the CAA Game of the Week:
Last week: Toledo 58, UNH 22. Lehigh 49 Monmouth 24.
In Phil Steele’s Preview on page 23 FCS Top 40 he says about Lehigh “3 sets of my power ratings call for them to have an undefeated regular season”. I think Lehigh will lose 1-2 games, and this will be one of them. UNH will be on the road for the 2nd straight week, but they will be looking to bounce back from getting worked over by Toledo.

W&M @ VMI. W&M by 4-5 TDs.
Last week UVA 40, W&M 3; Del State 24, VMI 21
These play each other almost annually. I wouldn’t call them rivals, as it has been ages since VMI has beaten W&M. Last 8 times these teams have played W&M has won by an avg of close to 5 TDs
02’ 62-31, 03’ 34-24, 04’ 42-6, 05’ 41-7, 06’ 38-6, 07’ 63-16, 08’ 52-17, 10’ 45-0
I don’t know anything about VMI this year except for the fact that Phil Steele picks them to finish 4th in the 6 team Big South and finish with their 8th straight losing season.

CCSU @ JMU 38-7
Last week UNC 42, JMU 10; CCSU 35, (Div II) S CT State 21
See my CCSU @ JMU thread.

ODU @ GST. ODU by 1-2 TDs.
Last week ODU 41, Cambell 14; GST 41, Clark 7 (Who the F is Clark?)
I really now nothing about GST.

Wagner @ UR by 3-4 TDs
Last week UR 23, Duke 21; Wagner 38, St Francis 28
According to Phil Steele, Wagner only returns 7 starters from last yr's team. Steele says "The only thing keeping them from the NEC basement is that they host both teams who I list below them." (One of those 2 teams is St Francis). JMU gets the top of the NEC this week. UR gets near the bottom. UR has the invariable post big win letdown and this thing ends up closer than it should be.

Div II
West Chester @ UD by 4-5 TDs.
Last week Navy 40, UD 17; New Haven 35, WCU 32 (OT) (New Haven happens to play @ W&M next week). WCU is a Div II power that has slipped the last 2 years. Last 5 years WCU has gone
06' lost @ UD 30-7. Finished 9-4 (lost 2nd round Div II playoffs).
07’ lost @ UD 41-14. Finished 9-3 (lost 1st round Div II playoffs).
08’ lost @ UD 48-20. Finished 10-3 (lost 2nd round Div II playoffs).
09’ lost @ UD 35-0. Finished 7-4.
10’ lost @ UD 31-0. Finished 4-7.

Bye: UMass

If JMU, Nova, UD, UNH, or WM lose this week, the frickin wheels are coming off for that/those team(s). UNH has the best chance of losing, especially since the game is in Bethlehem. Is Rich Owens still eligible?

I'm officially on the Towson bandwagon and off the Villanova one. Sure, Towson played lowly Morgan State, but I saw the first half of that game and MSU scored their three points after they returned the opening kick-off into Towson territory into FG range...then it was all Towson.

Nova appears to be set further back than I had anticipated after being a non-factor against Temple. It's clear this team has a lot of rebuilding yet to do.

I don't think Towson is much of a threat against many other CAA teams, but they are against this Nova team at home.

Towson's improving (maybe we'll need to revisit the "how many wins for Towson?" thread at some point) and I get it that Nova's been gutted. Still....I'm with Tribal's picks.

Uh, he said 2012 is the end of the series with West Chester - so that means that they play West Chester one more time, next year, in 2012. Are you sure you're okay over there, Andy, or are you still drinking following that win over Morgan St?

You mentioned the ESPN3 games. Surprised you didn't mention that ODU @ GST will be on:
Comcast Sports Net South
Comcast Sports Net Mid Atlantic
Comcast Sports Net New England
The Comcast Network
COX11

So most of us on the east coast will be able to watch/tape it..

My apologies, yeah the whole east coast should be able to see the ODU-GSU game on Saturday. Checked my local listings today and I will be able to watch it down here in Sarasota, Florida. :D
